Driving in to work this morning in the dark on a divided highway I noticed yellow flashing lights every once in a while up in the distance. Traffic kept flowing so didn't think too much about it, I figured what ever it was took an exit. Then I noticed a pickup going backwards down the road with...

    Grease nipple for 00 grease

I bought a new grease gun and transferred the grease from the squeeze tube to the gun. That worked so much better than trying to fill through the vent hole. This was the first time I had used 00 grease. By the way some people talk about it I thought the viscosity would be much lower.

    Grease nipple for 00 grease

Yes there is an actual grease fitting and the owners manual says to use it to fill the gear box. It seemed very odd to me. I was wondering if there is a way to fill 00 grease through a fitting that I didn't know about. My plan is to fill through the vent hole.

    Grease nipple for 00 grease

I have a troy bilt snow blower that calls for Shell Alvania grease. The part number looks to be 00 grade grease. The funny thing is they tell you in the manual to fill the gear case through the grease nipple. Thank goodness there is a plastic vent plug on top of the gear case. Is there really a...

    Modified Utility Trailer

I have a 16' flatbed that I tried one of those unloaders. I put sheets of hardboard between the vinyl sheet and the wooden deck to try to lessen the friction. To make a long story short a shovel works better. Maybe on a smaller trailer with less material weight they may work better.

Thanks for the information. Sounds like maybe I got incorrect information and it does need a 1/2" belt. The belt is a real pain to change since it is tucked up underneath the mower.

    hydrostatic drive belt problem

I have a Ferris ProCut 32 that has hydrostatic drive. There is a belt that comes off a pulley on the engine shaft, around the pulley on the hydraulic pump and it tensioned with a spring tensioned idler pulley. My research found the belt is 5/8" x 40". It took awhile but I found one. The reason...

    Freewheeling Hydrostatic drive

That is a good idea but the ProCut is a 3-wheel model with he deck out front. The drive wheels are in the middle between the deck and the single rear steer wheel. If I had room in the barn to pull it in I might try it. Unfortunately I don't have enough room so I would have to push it on the...

I was coming home form work the other day down a highway. Up ahead looked like a truck pulling something that looked to be the size of an outhouse on a trailer. What is up with battery sizing?

Those are the tables I looked through but nothing matched the battery I had. There were no marking on the battery to indicate size. Hydro trans oil

I know this is not for a four wheel tractor but it does pertain to a hydrostatic drive. I bought a used three wheel Farris mower with a hydrostatic drive. I think the only thing the hydraulics drive are the wheels. The manual says to change the hydraulic oil at 500 hours. The mower currently has...

    Disposal of used oil

What do you do with your used oil? When I change the oil in the cars I need to take it to the local Jiffy Lube or something. If I do that with the volume of oil to be changed when doing a 50hr maintenance I will be carting around a lot of oil to a lot of different places to get rid of it. That...

    Tactor Winter Storage

I got my first tractor this spring so this is the first winter it will go through. It will be stored outside and I probably will not need it during the winter. With this the first diesel I have owned I am not sure how I should prep it for a couple month storage. My gas engines I always ran the...

    Rake  Landscape rake basics

Once I get the ground loose with the disc I need to windrow the gravel out. Should I run the rake around first with it perpendicular to the line of travel to get the rock to the top then turn the rake to get the rock into windrows? How deep should I set the guage wheels? And lastly what about...

    Discing basics

I have been out playing with my new 6.5ft KK disc. I loaded it with about 215lbs and tipped it forward to do the initial cutting into the ground. I am trying to prepare the soil for a lawn. The sandy areas I have turned into large sandboxes. Now matter how many times I go over the gravely areas...

    How big can I pull?

After reading a lot of information in these discussions I am going to try to loosen up the old farm field for lawn with a disc. I have killed the weeds so now it is disc time. I have a FarmTrac 270DTC, it is a gear drive 27HP with industrial tires. The dealer suggested a 5.5ft disc. The local...

    cover crop for grass

I have read several people using things like oats to plant along with thier grass to let the grass get established while the oats keep the weeds down. I have a small slope that I will be planting in the next couple of weeks. I am worried about erosion while the grass is germinating. Will...

After doing my first spray job I am curious how you know where you need to be after the first pass? Rake  Powered York Rake?

I have been looking for implements to put in my new lawn. From what I have read the best thing would be a powered landscape rake like a Harley Rake. Well looking in the local swap sheet I noticed someone was selling a powered york rake. I looked at York's web site but didn't see any powered...

    Sprayer  TSC Fimco Sprayer

I was out trying to calibrate my tractor speed and pump pressure to spray my weeds so I can get my lawn in. My problem is that the sprayer manual says if I spray at 30psi at 5mph I should get about 10gal/acre. This is all well and good but I cannot get enough back pressure with the sprayer on to...

    Help!! I am an idiot!!

I just got my new Fimco sprayer and went to hook it up to the tractor. My problem with 3pt hitches has always been some rust or alignment problems so a piece of wood and a sledge hammer have always worked. Well this time it is the pins painted. So I pounded on one arm until I got it on about 1/2...

    Walco vs King Kutter

I am in the market for a 5-6 ft disc harrow. When I was down at at TSC on Monday they found in the catalog a 5 ft King Kutter disc for under $600. I have not been able to find that disc on their web site. I am assuming it is just an angle iron model not the box frame. The dealer I bought my...
