    Need hearing aid advice.

I have used two sets of Costco hearing aids. I have also used about a dozen over the counter hearing aids. None have worked for me. The Costco sets cost less than $2k. Some folks say they work. Maybe that is a good choice for you.

    Hearing aid question

Thought I had posted this before, but it is not here. I might not have pushed the post reply button. If I somehow violated a rule, I apologize. I have tried 3 Costco hearing aids. They worked no better for me than the 4 or 5 (or more) over the counter aids I have tried. I think the problem...

Over the counter (OTC) hearing aids

I have used 3 sets from Costco. They work for me as well as the over the counter type. I have used probably 4 or 5 (or more) of the over the counter types. The problem seems to be that (at least in Costco) they test for only up to about 8 kilohertz. Normal hearing goes well beyond that. I...

Spent 4 years in the Navy. Spent most of my time on a minesweeper. One time we were in an exercise off Corrigedor (sp?), the scene of some pretty wild stories in WWII. We were sweeping dummy mines, planted for the exercise. We cut one loose that was covered with barnacles. All those that...

What is some of your Pet Peeve's

I would favor a law which defined a stop sign as a "yield" sign for all vehicles. This city has many 4-way stops that often do not have other vehicles present. My gas mileage has suffered big time (about 30%) since moving here. Slowing down is often adequate.
  14. R

    What's your average mpg?

Near as i can figure, the drop is due to the vastly increased number of stop signs and lights here. The town is very hilly, but we were in the Arizona mountains, living in a small town. When we get away from the city, the mileage goes back to about what it was before.
  15. R

    What's your average mpg?

Just moved across the country. My truck, a 2020 Tacoma, got 22 mpg originally. Now it gets about 18 mpg. The wife's car, a 2016 RAV4, got 31 mpg before; now about 23. I had several cars, all stick shifts, that got 45 to 50 mpg. One got 55 mpg at 55 miles per hour on a 1000+ mile trip.

    BB gun for pest control

I have a ten round Gamo .22 rifle. The magazines have held up for a couple of years, and are still working. The rifle is most accurate with approximately 17 gram, round nose pellets. For me, changing weights of pellets produces wider patterns.

    Concrete mix question

I am a devout do-it-yourselfer. If I don't know how to do it, I find a book and learn. I have a book on concrete work and it states clearly that the water should be clean and the sand and gravel should be washed, free of dirt and organic matter. A couple of years ago, I hired some work done...

    Backup generator--again

A reply by 40Kchicks to my previous question about propane backup generators got me to thinking. A portable welder/generator would be much more useful. I have a 220V buzz box and a small 110V wire welder. A generator capable of handling them would serve my purposes. A few years ago I tried...

    Propane backup generator

A nearby forest fire knocked out our power for nearly a day last week. That got the wife concerned, primarily about running the pump to ensure we had water for the goats. We are considering getting a 7kW propane powered backup generator to connect to our garage/workshop to run the pump and...

    YM1500 loader capacity

Does anyone have an idea how much weight a loader on a 1500D can lift? I am considering ordering a generator which weighs about 450# and wonder if I should be looking for a way to unload it from a truck when it arrives.

    Oxy/act torch leak

Not sure this is the appropriate forum for this question. A glance at previous posts indicates there are a number of welders to be found here. I had bookmarked a welding forum on countrybynet some time back, but it apparently doesn't exist anymore. Anyway, I find my oxy/act torch leaks at the...

    Hitch installation

I appeal to the superior mechanical abilities of my fellow TBNers. I bought a receiver hitch to install on the wife's truck. It requires four bolts and 1"x2" spacers be placed inside the box frame, about 8" and 18" from the end on each side. Included are four "bolt leaders," stiff wires with...

    Tachometer cable

The tachometer on my 1500D is starting to jitter a bit. When the speedometers on my trucks did that in the past I could find a small bottle in the parts stores which was to be attached to the speedometer end of the cable to lube it. (That was before the automakers changed the design to...

    Quick Disconnects

I see from other posts that there is a hazard to the hydraulic pump if a quick disconnect should accidentally come loose. My 1500D is presently apart. Someone suggested to me that I should put quick disconnects on the loader hydraulic lines before putting it back together. I haven't had a...

    My tractor broke!

My 1500D is down with driveline problems. The coupler from the clutch shaft to the input of the transmission has lost its splines and the transmisison input shaft has been damaged. I had been removing gravel from a wash, not pushing it very hard. Running about 1500-1800 rpm in first or...

    Traction  5-14 traction tires

Owners of YM1500D tractors can rejoice. Firestone now imports the 5-14 lug-m tire. Ask for article # 344-443B. It was not in the catalog when I ordered mine. The Des Moines warehouse stocks them. reb

    3-Point Hitch  Hitch Pin Torque

Just acquired a JD rotary cutter. The lower hitch pins are relocatable, with a high position for large tractors and a low position for small tractors. I assume that the 1500D is in the latter category. The manual states the torque on the lock nuts should be 435 lb-ft. That is beyond the...

    1500D PTO

I gather from reading the parts manual that my 1500 has a 3-speed PTO. However, I have been able to engage only one speed, with the lever pushed down and (I think) back. Am I missing something or is there a problem somewhere? Thanx.
