This engine is used on an older EZ rake or Trac vac. I do not know if it is a replacement engine or not. there are no markings on it except the pull cord has SSK and NOK on the handle. I am concerned because the gas cap is marked with a fuel to oil mix of 50:1. The air filter is by a Japanese firm: KOUKENSHA. It has oil ports on the bottom of the engine. I inadvertantly have been running it on regular fuel and then I noted the marking on the top of the fuel cap!!!! I am afraid to ignore or use the 50:1 ration mix.

Any info would be helpful....

Thanks...rockydocky

Someone replaced the fuel tank filler cap with an inappropriately marked piece.

The engine is a four stroke with oil in the crank case that full fills all lubrication requirements.

But don't forget.. " engines run better and last longer with Marvel Mystery oil in every fill up!"

what Calg said. Cap looks plastic and the original cap was metal. Good engine though.

Yep, some goomer put a two-stroke fuel cap on a four-stroke fuel tank! Reminds me of people that converted those early GM diesels to gas engines but left the diesel stickers on the fuel filler.

Do you see a place to add oil??

I don't know about your engine, but I have a Still FS 90, 4 stroke weed wacker that requires a 50 to one mix. They call their motor a 4 mix.
It has valves just like a four stroke but holds no crankcase oil.

No kidding? Never heard of that. I (and I'm sure many others), would like to see a thread and pics of that. Sounds interesting. :)

Gentlemen: thank you for the quick responses. BUT....the gas tank is plastic and match for the plastic gas cap. Have you encountered a Briggs/S or Tecumseh that has a Japanese air filter? Could this be a Japanese engine? The SKK on the pull start matches a Japanese motor bike company but i could't find any 1 cylinder engines on their web site. The small filter that fits into the top of the gas tank is also unusual to what I have ever seen with B&S or Tecumseh. Any clues here?
Oh, the challenges of the day, week, month and year.

Pull the plug and check compression to tell if it is a two cycle.

There are larger two cycle engines that have a separate crankcase.

I have an old Kawasaki FA210D that has the same muffler and red switch, but the carb and tank are like an old 5hp Briggs. The motor looks the same otherwise.

Pull the muffler and see if there is a valve behind it. I think it is a two stroke myself.

Up until I saw the carburetor, I was going to say 5 hp Briggs also. That doesn't look like a Briggs carb. Maybe a Frankenstein?

My Stihl chainsaw is a 4 cycle that requires a 50:1 mix. Never have seen such as an engine that large, though.

The engine is Japanese made by Honda for the company who makes the vacuum. The fuel tank (if plastic) has been replaced.

The crankcase on your engine is oil filled according to the sticker regarding oil weights and levels. No mix needed.

Moss,

I have a Stihl pole pruner ... uses the same type of engine (4 mix) ... apparently it's something they came up with to reduce engine emissions and pollution.

thank's for posting the Stihl link.
as the old saying goes..You learn something new everyday. I have never even heard of the 4 mix.

Gentlemen: Again thank you for your responses. After learning that the engine was possibly as Kawasaki/Japanese built, I then drained the fuel tank and replaced the regular with a 50:1 gas oil mix. She runs more beautifully than before while running on plain regular without the oil mix. Previously it seemed to want to tie up after extended running and stiff when using the pull cord. No smoking either. I'll stay with the gas oil mix.

Thanks Again

I doubt it'll hurt a thing running with a little oil in the gas. Back when I was a kid my father had a lawboy push mower. So we always had mixed gas. That gas would get used in everything from dirt bikes to go carts with Briggs engines. Never fouled a plug. Of course back then nobody cared about a little extra smoke in the exhaust. In today's world burning a touch of oil in your gas would set off alarm bells.
