Do you have a picture of the aviator rules sign that Edna had hanging on her wall at 52F?

I could not stop laughing when I read about it.:laughing::laughing:

Rules For Aviators
1. Pilots will not wear spurs while flying.
2. Hedge-Hopping will not be tolerated.
3.Pilots should carry hankys in a handy position to wipe off goggles.
4. If you see another machine near you, Get out of the way.

Edna also had a sign up that read: "If you think you can, OR, if you think you can't, You're RIGHT!"

Sadly, I do not have a photo of either of those signs. She was truly an inspiration.

Another woman that stands out in my mind, and that I wish I had met, was Pancho Barnes. Truly trailblazers, who made their own rules.

pacerron;
Thanks for the grape pie recipe! Can I use any grapes, even if some are better, (like those Mustang grapes!). I'd even buy grapes in the store this Fall to make that recipe, if those will work. I don't mind the extra work.
And yes, I still ride horses. I hadn't, in several years, as I was in a truck wreck in 2002 that made a mess of my back, neck, and me. I was told I'd need back surgery, and might not be walking, if I didn't. It has taken some time, and effort (but NO surgery!), but I began riding again this past March. I even added a new horse to the mix! I've enjoyed my 14.3-15 hand QHs, all of my life, and ended up with a 17.2 hand TB (retired racer)! Nothing like going back into it, by jumping off of the deep end! It sure will be a long way to the ground if I fall! It is a long way to the ground to dismount! :confused2:

My wife says the recipe is for Concord grapes but should work for any. You might have to adjust the sugar content depending on how tart the grapes are or how tart you like it.

What you need for your horses are some mounting steps.:)
My wife's horse was sort of a runt when she purchased her 10 years ago. She was with a herd and was the last to get any feed as the woman that owned them didn't live on the property but just went by every evening to check on them and give them feed as a group.
We had seen the sire and the dam and they were not real big although he was quite muscular.
Anyway her horse, after good feeding and a lot of lunge line and free lunging along with training ended up at 15 hands by the age of 3.
My wife is only 15.1 hands to the top of her head so I put an old set of trailer steps in the ring for her to use for mounting and dismounting.
Works great.
Might save your back some grief.
I've been dumped a few times by horses and it is a long way down. Kinda makes your head :confused2:
On the trail, as you know, you gotta find a rock or stump or have someone give you a leg-up

Ron- Your horse looks a lot like mine.......FAT.

I have something fat that rhymes with horse if you use the British pronunciation.:ashamed:

BTW: While in the garden yesterday, I looked closely at my ****** melon vines to see if I needed to keep watering them. I thought I'd find a couple more melons, but found NINE. Holy Cow! Most of them are about grapefruit size and hanging/hiding under leaves. I guess I won't stop watering anytime soon. I did pull the soakers off the mostly dead cucumber vines.

Well, we took the deer net off the grapes yesterday afternoon.
Right before dark my wife said put the deer cam out. Only post close was on the arbor end itself.
This picture stinks because he was too close to the camera. The camera fired 15 times
but the dew/fog made the shots mostly white. I need to put a hood over the camera lens I guess?
This has happened before when there is a lot of dew.

Anyway, I was thinking about doing it again tonight from the tree toward the vines, and may, but the vines
are almost picked clean of the thousands of grape cluster left there in one night.
Gonna have to watch where we step. Our deer will have the "back door trots", if you know what I mean:D

Dang Ron, I think you missed your chance to get pictures of deer with purple mustaches.:D

I have an old set of steps just like those, free for the hauling if anyone wants them. If not, I'm debating on putting them on the burn pile.

Thanks again, for the extra info, parerron! When I was riding the new, BIG guy in March, I was wearing 3 layers of clothes, on a cold day. (My first time back on a horse, since the wreck in 2002!) I used a step ladder, and still had to work to get my foot in the stirrup to get mounted! I'm sure it looked like the Amateur Hour! Me, out of condition for mounting and riding, plus the garb, equipment, and size of the horse, had to have been a sight! The lady that taught him his "basics" after he left the track, did a GREAT job of teaching him to stand still! I stand 16.3 hands myself, but that isn't always an advantage, when one has lost their "spring" to mount up! And your horse is beautiful!

Kyle; I'd take those steps, but won't have any way of getting them and hauling them. I won't have any hauling capacity when I am in Austin in 2 weeks, or I'd ask if you could bring them there. I hate to see something useful stuck in a burn pile. Maybe someone else would like them for mounting steps, that is closer to you.

Oh, and jinman; Let's not talk about fat parts of the body, please! :p Congrats on more melons! I actually bought a Pecos cantaloupe on my way home yesterday. My truck smelled wonderful when finishing my trek, and the house smells like it, this morning! It will be lunch today! My Fall garden stuff looks good, but I did water this morning. I have to pick okra today, as well!

On a side notel It was the alternator that was my Thurday night warning. Was in warranty, so didn't cost me any $$, just time and aggravation. So, 15 hour work day Thursday, and 9 hours yesterday. That is the downside to taking a holiday off, one has to "suck it up" somewhere, and cram 5 days into 4! I got up at my usual 0330 this morning. Started laundry and cleaned a little. When I moved the first load of laundry to the dryer, I went to lie down for a few minutes. I fell asleep, and was awakened by the dogs 2 hours later! The horses thought I had forgotten them too! Felt good to sleep, but I am not used to the day truly beginning as late as 0730!

While your in Austin you can swing over to Giddings and get a free horse mount.
