Farmgirl, we all wish we could live as long as Paul did and be remembered as fondly by so many.

Some of us used to say, we were going to die young, and leave a good looking corpse! It is now a little late for some of us to die young. :thumbsup: I just hope that I can do the things I love, up until the end.

Check this out!!! We went to garden and picked veggies after the AC guy left. Guess what I'm gonna be doing for the next couple of days?

That haul looks wonderful! :licking: All of my seeds that I planted last weekend, came up, and with the 0.7" of rain that I finally ended with today, they look very happy! My garden didn't do as well as yours, this summer, due to the lack of rain, but maybe my Fall garden will make up for it! :cloud9:

Fixed!:thumbsup: Two new capacitors and a check of the refrigerant was all that it took (only the condenser fan cap was out, but I wanted the compressor replaced too). Total bill even on a holiday was $165 and he had to drive 30 miles round-trip. Can you see why this guy gets all my business?

Ron I was going to cut yesterday but it rained,, not a lot but enough to get the hay good and wet.. another 30% to day.. so I will wait till it less than 20%,, in the mean time I will run up to Caldwell and look at some cutters.. or Wharton.. or maybe both.. Lou

I am scheduled to be in Austin, on the south side, on Sunday, Sept. 22. I will be attending a work seminar, so won't have a lot of time, but if any of you are going to be in the area, let me know. I'll leave home at 0330 that morning. Will arrive in Austin and go for a walk, to stretch my legs, as I'll be sitting all day (which I do not do well). Seminar begins at 0800. We will probably get a 30 minute lunch break, that I will use for a walk too. Expect to depart Austin 1700-1730 for home. Hope to have all critters tended to here, a shower and fall into bed by 2200!

Hey Lou; When in Wharton, check and see if Coastal Flying Service is still around. Used to be owned and operated by King Sharp. He and I used to hang out and fly a little together. He is the one that I sold my Cessna 140A to, many years ago. If you happen to run into him, tell him I said hello. (If you mention the 140A, he'll know who it is!)

FG got your message after I got back.. I didn't go into the Caldwell about 3 miles this side,, at Mini Hay Balers and Compact Hay Balers | Small Farm Innovators they had some disc cutters but not the one I wanted.. Nice 300 miles drive, had lunch in Bellville at the Hill café.. best hamburger in Washington county.. Plus free legal advice,, anyway that what the sign outside said.. My wife and I had the hamburger and I asked what is the best way to short chance the staff here at The Hill café legally.. I don't think they understood my humor.:confused3:. So I tip them five dollars on a twelve dollars meal.. because I thought is was going to cost me twenty dollars.. I came out three dollars ahead,, because it was my wife twenty.:laughing:. Lou

I'll be in San Marcos Saturday afternoon for a baby shower with Rebecca. I don't know if I'll stay Sat. night or come home. I'll know more as it gets closer. Maybe we can meet at your lunch break.

It's a cool morning here, 67 F. That won't last long because it's supposed to go to 95 F this afternoon. I have to mow my yard today, but not while the dew is on the grass. They finished up paving our road yesterday and all the equipment is gone. I took a joyride end-to-end on our Mule to celebrate how smooth it is and how there's no dust.

It's a cool morning here, 67 F. That won't last long because it's supposed to go to 95 F this afternoon. I have to mow my yard today, but not while the dew is on the grass. They finished up paving our road yesterday and all the equipment is gone. I took a joyride end-to-end on our Mule to celebrate how smooth it is and how there's no dust.

Everything is turning to fall too fast above the Mason-Dixon Line.

My wife has canned 36 qts. of grape juice and made 2 pies thanks to your deer netting.
Now we are going to take it off and let them feast on the thousands of grapes left on the vines.

All the canning is done unless we get some good pears. They don't look good so far.

71 here this morning, going for 98, and I DID mow even while there was dew on the grass, cause I knew I'd be busy awhile and sure enough it took 4 hours without a break. Of course that was string trimmer for about 45 minutes, then mowing ours with the bagger, mowing most of the ones on either side of us, stringing out enough air hoses to blow out the dust from the garden tool storage shed and garage, blowing off the driveways and sidewalk, cleaning up the equipment, and spraying 2 quarts of Bug-B-Gone at the rate of 1.5 oz. per gallon on the yard.

pacerron; I used to have some good pear trees, but a tornado came through and ripped them up. Now, I usually get mine from Homer. Sometimes, I even nab them, after he has made them into jelly and jam! :laughing: I hope to plant more fruit trees this fall. I miss having them.

I don't think I've ever eaten any pear jelly or jam, but I sure did like pear honey. There's lots of recipes on the Internet for pear honey, but I know we only used pears, sugar, and canned crushed pineapple, cooked it altogether and put it in jars. When I was a kid, we pealed and cored the pears, then ground them up with an old hand cranked food grinder, but in later days, we simply use the grating blade in the food processor.

And I still think pear honey is one of the best and most versatile fruit concoctions around. In addition to being an ice cream topping and going well with hot biscuits or toast, my mother used to use pear honey between layers of cakes instead of using whatever frosting she was using on the outside of the cake.

The pears my wife cans are Kieffers. They don't ripen on the tree and must be picked green in Oct-Nov ( hard as rocks ) and brought inside to ripen before canning. They are a commercial pear designed for ruff handling. Probably wouldn't work for Pear honey..
We also have Bartlett but prune them back a lot in the fall as the main function is for pollination of the Kieffers.

I run my wife up in the old flat bottom FEL bucket and she prunes the branches with nippers. I have an ear bud in my ear from a walkie-talkie and she lets me know when to move her around. All I have to do is stay awake and smoothly work the controls
