How do you plow snow?

The whole thing that’s flown over your heads is the reference to “real” snow as if his snow was more “real” than anyone else's snow.
But y’all missed that.
Is his snow any more “real” to plow, shovel, salt, etc than anyone else's?

Is 10” of his snow any more “real” than 10” of snow where I live?

I could argue mine’s more “real” because I live in a climate where people aren’t as accustomed to heavy snow as where he lives and it places a more “real” burden on us.

Now maybe you now understand what I meant by “real” versus “fake”

But the BIG difference is that the FAKE snow referred to above only gets put where sane people don't need to drive!

The minute my township starts putting snow machines on my road is the minute I:
A) stop paying taxes, or, if that doens't work
B) move somewhere that has people with brains operating the budget.

We have had so little snow the last few years, all I use are pusher shovels on the pavement and pack down the snow on the gravel. I want Arly to send me down some of his excess snow so I have some to plow.

You seem to have missed the point of his comment. The comparison is not 10" of snow at his place to 10" of snow at yours. It's 10" of snow at his place to some place that only gets minuscule amounts.

That sort of phrasing is quite common anyplace that I have lived: e.g. "we're talkin' real money" (as opposed to minor amounts).

Yeah probably, because it was a goofy way of saying his snow is any less of a “real” inconvenience, danger, or effort to remove, etc. He should have said “we get more snow here than most places in the US”.
1” of snow on the roads of a southern city is absolute mayhem. It’s a lot more “real”, but 1 inch of snow in Saginaw, MI is barely noticed.

That’s right. And that’s easy for them. They are well equipped and prepared for it, and accustomed to it.
A large amount of snow in my area is actually more “real” because we get considerably less snow. We might get 20” average per year. However, we have less equipment, less preparation for heavy snow and a population less capable of driving & handling heavy snow.

We have three months when on average it doesn't snow at all here, and used to get 100-120 inches during the other nine months.

I'm saying "used to" because it snowed a lot before getting the M6040. With a 9-foot Bison rear blade it was doable, and adding a front 8-foot blade helped a lot.

Also helpful was getting a 7-foot snowblower that I made work on a Unimog, using its backhoe hydraulics. And another Unimog with a dozer blade to push piles away with. An L3800 with a wider and lighter bucket was used to create those piles.

All good, except that it resulted in cutting the snowfalls in half, or less. When then getting a skid steer to run the snow blower more efficiently, it basically eliminated any snowfall. Didn't have to plow a single time last winter.

I'm seriously thinking about selling a lot of things, tire chains, snow pushers (6 and 8') and whatever else it takes to get some snow falling here again. The people relying on the Rio Grande will likely thank me.

When I was a kid in elementary school, we were taught that those were the "North Central States" (North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Nebraska, Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, Missouri, and Kansas). You don't hear that name much these days.

Just for grins, I searched various maps describing the geographic regions of the US, and they were all over the page. My area (Maryland) is usually lumped in with Mid Atlantic, but also Northeast, and South.
One map I looked at has Pennsylvania and New York as Mid Atlantic. That can't be right!
For the record, I identify as Mid Atlantic without any real snow. Our historical annual snow is supposedly 20-24", but in the last 10 years it's been just under 12".

Just for grins, I searched various maps describing the geographic regions of the US, and they were all over the page. My area (Maryland) is usually lumped in with Mid Atlantic, but also Northeast, and South.

It's all relative. When I lived in the South I found that no matter where you were, everyone south of you were rednecks and everyone north of you were da** Yankees.

Off topic but I discovered your region is all relative. For the original surveying in Illinois was titled something like “Instructions For Surveying The Northwest Territories “. I think of the northwest being Washington and Oregon. Back in the early 1800’s Illinois, Iowa and Wisconsin would have been the northwest

I knew what he meant when he said "real snow." Some northern people, what we used to call Eskimos, have like 40 different words for snow. We might have as many here in Buffalo's snow belt and ArlyA gets a lot more than we do. I laugh when the TV news talks about a blizzard hitting Cincinatti or K.C. It's all relative.
