How do you plow snow?

Looking good. Is that a Woods blower? What size? Congrats on the new attachment, hope you get to try it out soon.
Thanks! Yes, it's a new to me Woods SB64S, so 64" across. Saw a deal and couldn't pass it up. Here's hoping we'll get one good storm before winter is over.

^New for this year, and of course, we've had almost no plowable snow. Just some slush that was easily scrapped off with the snowpush.

Reasoning: Used the rear blade first because it was cheap. Then Parents resealed the driveway and didn't want a metal edge on the sealant. So the snowpush with a stiff rubber edge was purchased. That worked well for a little while, but the second picture was about all it could handle snow wise (Maybe most of that was my fault, maybe I just needed more weight on the L3901) so this fall I picked up the blower. I'm itching to put it to use! Might get my chance this week but time will tell!
I got the SPL1084 for my LS 4140 this year and love it so far. Only used it four times. Handled 6-8" of snow but I have a larger machine and wide turf tires. The only issue so far has been on ice but I am looking at installing self drilling hex head screws to act as studs on the rear tires and maybe add chains to the fronts. I might add some counter weight on the 3 PH.

I doubt what I have could deal with anything over 12" in one pass but if I need to make multiple passes once or twice a year that beats having to deal with PTO hook up and shear pins.

Honestly, the PTO hook-up is the easiest part for me. It's a collar type connector rather than the spring pin I'm used to. Just pull back on the collar and it slides right on and off.

Shear pins are likely going to become a problem only if I push it too hard or hit some really icy stuff. We just don't get enough snow here for that to be a problem.

Noticed something funny. My past pics in the jeep pic, then a newer pic.

That blue spruce started out looking like a charlie brown Christmas tee when planted.

18 years right there difference in tree.

Shear Pin safety tip:

Don't let the blower ingest a piece of split firewood that fell off and was covered up by snow.
Broke the 540 shaft shear pin and front auger one as well on the Wifo 84" Inverted blower. Then the fun of getting the wood out of the snow packed blower housing and replacing shear pins . DOH.

Shown opening her up after a good one.

Man, that's what happens when you have 2 Banks, it just fills the road in side-side.

Might make it, plow off the ground 4-5"s Straight, and "Mat It!" Clean it up once your all the way through.

That happened to me. On my inverted 74ā€ blower.

True story. When I bought the blower the dealer asked me if I had good relationships with my neighbors. Gave him a quizzical look. He told me a guy bought the same blower and somebody threw a piece of firewood on this drive so it would jam up the blower. The guy suspected who it was but couldn’t prove it.

A friend of mine was asked to run his rather large snowblower (6-cylinder engine driving just the 'blower) in somebody's yard.

Anything out there? he asked. No, was the answer. Well, there was. And a lawn mower can make significant damage to a snowblower.

Not much remained of the mower, but the damage to the 'blower was enough for my friend to sell it afterwards.

Looks like the garage did well in those 18 years too. :)

Oh wow, In my case my own stupidity or carelessness.

That’s why I love my hydraulic snowblower. Instant stop if foreign object is ingested. No shear bolts. No damage

I have it about 4 inches up with skids so dont drag gravel. But got it back then just working it back forth little bit at a time.

I usually keep about 800lbs in the bed of truck too. This year no clue weight as it might be even more with the logs stacked in there. I usually buy 20 40lbs bags of compost and use for weight then beds in spring.

You need some Snow Fence, or Drift Ruts

I run 200' total worth from north that gets me in a blue moon and west in the upper curb area.

No way I can do that whole thing pounding it in fing t-post every 8' or so then removing. So I deal with it with plow. Only about a 1/3 shown on west side.

Run a rut, in your field down the westside of your drive, not pretty, a width and 1/2 wide, wing the bank to the west side. That rut would catch most of the blowing snow for 2-4 events. I ended up doing that here. Right about where the Snowmobile track is on the other side of the Buoy

You would be amazed at how much snow the Rut catches.

Because 1/2" of blowing Snow would have filled this stretch in, while the rest of the Road would have been fine for the most part.

I cant that is farmer across the road land that is tillable. He also leases to another farmer.

But ya they do that up north of me with like 8' looking ditches off the farm field.

What you dont notice in pics. All the markers lining the drive. You go passed them and hang that plow off the sides your get sucked in and the rear goes up.
Ask me how I know. Learned that one the hard way in old amc.

My drive is up higher then the sides. Raised in middle even though cant see it. Makes for fun mowing hanging on. šŸ˜‹

Need to be careful blowing snow, small rocks can break windows and put holes in vinyl siding, thankfully hasn’t happened to me yet but a few friends have learned the hard way.
