How do you plow snow?

I love snow shoes. Got mine stashed in the closet as if I will ever need them here. But used them a lot when I lived out west. That is my old boy Guinness Stout 20+ years ago on a snow shoe hike in Montana.

Edit: @Gordon Gould had pictures of snow shoes in his post. That sparked my memory.

I was hoping to see the photos where Mr. Gordon dragged back that downed tree...guess that is for tomorrow's post!

We're in north central PA, and a welcomed warming trend has hit!

Above freezing both day and night for the last 2 days and next 4 days, which will melt off our 8 inches of snow.

The way the 1st snow happened this year, the ground (and gravel on the drive) was not frozen when we got a big snow, and the conditions resulted in more gravel embedded in the snow berms than desired, in spite of keeping the blade above the gravel when plowing.

So yesterday I was able to "reverse plow" the snow banks, angling the back blade in the opposite direction to plow the snow banks and embedded gravel back onto the driveway.

This has resulted in the snow melt leaving the gravel back on the driveway rather than the lawn and side ditches.

I spread out the snow I plowed back in and ran over the bigger chunks with the tractor tires...and at this point, the snow is mostly gone, leaving the gravel behind...

Timing is everything in being successful with this...but it seems to have worked out better than I expected for the small amount of time and effort required.

I wish I could, but winter hasn't started here yet.

Although, about 15 miles to the north there's an avalanche warning. Meanwhile, an hour east of here there's a red flag warning.

64 here today. The last little pile of snow I had stacked up melted a few days ago. It’s suppose to get cold again starting Friday but no snow predicted.

Here's my two main snow machines. Just fueling up after I cleaned yard yesterday. I haven't even put the blower on the tractor the last two winters ever since I put one on the RTV. Previously had a Boss vee plow on the RTV.
Now I just use the tractor to cut and scrape with the blade and loader once in a while. I keep the skid shoes down quite a bit on the blower so after a while I get some buildup. So then I just go cut with the tractor.

sick kubota I don't blame you open cab, rear blower vs close cab and front blower its a no brainer ... what power that front snow blower on the RTV? it doesn't look like it has a independent motor on it.

PTO driveshaft. Part of the K-Connect system.
The good: works great, throws snow farther than my tractor blower.
The bad: loss of ground clearance, so now I don't use my RTV to go atv riding any more. And it's pretty complex and lots of maintenance points.
