That is correct; the railroad community really pushed for standardizing time zones. Otherwise their timetables were a mess. Even within the time zones(as well as pre-time zones) most went by the sun for instance High Noon.
Richard Sears (yes, that Sears) was instrumental in making it happen. He sold watches to station managers.

Yes, the total amount of daylight of course isn't affected at all. The question is, would you rather have more daylight after work when you can actually use it, or in the morning? A majority of people would rather have the hour of daylight in the evening when it can be used to complete chores around the property after work, get little league baseball games in, mow the grass, or whatever else it is you need to do. Putting that hour on the front of the day when most people are driving to work is a waste.

Long live DST!!!
DST is fine in the summer when the days are long, but not so much in the winter months when there's less than 10 hr. of daylight. At least switching to standard time gives you more daylight in the morning as opposed to it not getting light until 8am in December & January. Regardless of ST or DT, it's still dark at 5 during those months, at least in northern states.

No matter what the clock says, weekdays in Dec and January I never see my house during daylight hours.

Yes, short days suck....but at least I don't have to mow! (y)
I know, in Summer I b**** because it's too hot. In winter I complain that the days are too short. In spring the blackflies are bad. Fall months I say are too short to get everything done.

Do you see a pattern yet? 😆

I love the change of seasons though. ⏰

I personally don't care what time it is; my schedule is very flexible and I can get it to anything after a bit.

Throwing in an arbitrary schedule shift like Standard time/Daylight savings time changes is bad for everyone; there's a bit of evidence that it literally kills people (deaths increase immediately after the shifts and reduce later).

My primary beef with DST is that the sun is highest at 1PM instead of noon.

I wonder how many people actually know that.
In my younger days I paid a lot of attention to the sun in winter, as I didn't want to be caught miles from the truck when the sun went down.

The sun is rarely at its highest at noon. There are a lot of other factors, like what time of year it is, where are you within your timezone, etc. The only way you would even get close is to return to local time.
