I also have a number next to my icon. A #1 which I figured meant I had one unread message but I've read them all and the number
1 is still there?

That may or may not be the apps fault. With the 4.0 OS and subsequent updates I have noticed that happening to all of my apps. My messaging app was up to 28 the other day and I had no new msgs. Personally I'm starting to hate this new OS.

Thanks. Now that I've seen the screen shot I realize that is the number of subscribed threads with new posts "feature". It seems inconsistent though. Sometimes it shows none when there are in fact a number of new posts.

With my Google app in 4.x, the icon now shows the number of unread emails going back years so if there do not appear to be new posts in a TBN thread then I'd scroll down to the bottom of your subscribed threads and see if there are not some old ones that you never read but that have been picked up by the app. Just a thought.

I have the 3GS, but only running OS 3.1.3 since I am afraid to update to 4.x.x as of yet. The last major update was not friendly towards me so I am leery about upgrading.

Unless you want to be able to listen to Pandora in the background while doing other things, I'd say stick with what you have. 4.x.x is embarrassingly buggy.

I've been running it since I got my iPhone4 without any problems.

It's the SW on the 3GS that's at issue.

OK. That's not what jcims said, though.

I upgraded my 3GS a couple of weeks ago. No problems so far. Much smoother than the last 3.x upgrade I did.

Only real benefit other than multitasking I can see is the ability to tether. However, as much as I'd like to use it in tethering mode, I am reluctant to give up my unlimited service to get that feature. Waiting to see what sort of jailbreak or non Apple solution to provide tethering without changing service becomes available.

I use "My Home" a lot when accessing TBN with a computer and was frustrated that you have to add an extra step with this app by going first to the "more" menu. Maybe some of you have already figured this out but it is actually quite easy to modify the bottom screen menu and add the subscribed threads option (=my home).

Go to the "more" page, hit the edit button at the top, then grab the desired function and drag it to the bottom menu panel. I added the "subscribed" option in place of the logout button. Simple as that.

OK. That's not what jcims said, though.

To clarify the above, 4.0.1 on my 3GS was awful (for me). It was basically unstable, and would crash on a regular basis...almost daily. I've since updated to 4.1 and it is vastly improved. I don't believe it has crashed once since the update.

I have noticed one thing, however, and I don't know if it's hardware or software. But when the battery is marginal (say 7-10%) and I either start up an app or take a picture, there will be times when i'll hear a little snap from the speaker and the phone just goes dark. If i was taking a photo at the time, the picture will not have been saved.

I've also noticed the 'GSM sound' (that sound you can hear through speakers if the phone is too close) can now be heard coming from the earpiece speaker as well. Could just be the phone.

Thanks JC, I knew what you meant;)

I have still not done the S/W update:confused2:

I'm still having trouble with 4.1. Not nearly as stable or fast as 3.x. The TBN app hangs regularly (solved by closing and restarting) as does the NYTimes app. Both just basically fail to update the screen and become unresponsive. Clearly an operating system issue as neither app had any problems under 3.x.

I had a 3G running 3.1.2 and now an iPhone4 which ran 4.0 and now 4.01 and both were jailbroken and I have never had any problems with either of them.

I have 3GS that started on 3.X. Upgraded to 4.0, then 4.01 then 4.02 and now 4.1. No trouble with any apps on any of the OS releases. Some apps haven't caught up with R4.1, but you can't blame that on the OS.

I keep making the mistake of upgrading the OS so that the currently available jailbreaks don't work. Be very careful before going to 4.2 as they have made it even harder to go backwards.
