Been playing out in the shop lately trying to put together a stump grinder.
I致e purchased a gearbox, PTO with slip clutch, a couple of hydraulic cylinders and some carbide teeth by green teeth.
The company I work for designs and builds farm equipment, so I致e taken advantage of that and had some parts laser cut and cnc bent as well.
Says I need 3 posts before I can link to pictures

the ginding wheel. Added twice as many holes as I have teeth incase I ever get rich..

with the PTO shaft. When its actually hooked up to the gear box the slip clutch is underneath the cover.

Cool, are you planning on a design that swings horizontally, or a straight back vertical orientation (like the woodland mills model)?

One that swings side to side.
Not like the woodland mills style.
Hopefully. Lol

It’s 19 dia 5/8 thick so it weighs roughly 55lbs without the teeth.
I’ve got 12 sets of teeth I’m guessing that’s another 15lbs maybe a little more.

Right on, looking forward to more build progress.

Great idea! Nice having your work resources.

Very cool, this is exactly what I have been collecting parts to build, I was planning on a 1in thick flywheel and was still working out the number of teeth.

Are you using the 700 series? Interested in seeing style pockets and pattern you're using.

What size tractor are you planning on using this on?

Yeah, I’m using the 700 series teeth.
For now I’m using 3 sets of angled and 3 sets of straight. I added an extra 6 sets of holes offset 1/2 deeper on the wheel to add more teeth if required.
I had planned to go with a 3/4 inch thick wheel, but the mounting bolts I ordered would only accommodate the 5/8 inch plate.
I plan to run it on my 30hp JD 4310
Just flying by the seat of my pants and spending way too much money. The teeth alone 500$ Canadian pesos’

I'm looking at doing an 18tooth setup (the teeth are a little cheaper here in the good ol USA).
I found machine setups are more affordable so using a Bandit 2100xp setup which uses 6 straight and 12 angled teeth and has the bolts for a 1in flywheel.

I don't have a peice of 1in plate large enough right now, so planning on using 2 5/8 peices turned and bolted together with the hub and teeth.

Are you just welding the gearbox hub onto the flywheel? My plan was to make a hub that has a the gearbox hub welded to it that will then bolt to the flywheel.

I took the notion to build this stupid thing looking at American websites, thinking “how much more can it cost to source this stuff in Canada”. Gag... I’m actually scared to know how much it is to purchase a Woods model grinder for fear I’ve spent more to build it. Lol

I wish I could have found the teeth in a kit like you did.

I do plan to weld the hub to the fly wheel. The output on my gearbox has just a key way on it. If I where to buy again I would have gotten one with a splined output.

Ah got ya, my gearbox is a tapered spline (brush hog style), otherwise I would have just machined a new hub for it.

The place I'm looking at getting the teeth from is treestuff.com. It's about $375 usd for the 18tooth setup I'm looking at.

Wish I had access to a laser and cnc brake, but at least I have a cnc plasma and a little press brake.

A little progress today and last night. I added the cutting wheel shroud. I bought 3/16 material for it. Boy did I over estimate the thickness. I had to cut half way through it with angle grinder in 18 places. I then bent it about 10 degrees at each cut.
I couldn’t find a decent way to clamp it. Ended up wrestling with it as I’d try to tack it.
Far from perfect but I can live with it.
I tried to find a slip roller but know one had one that could do stuff 5 inches wide.

Did you use 3/16 for the gearbox mount also?
