Saving a 5g fuel can

I have a 30+ year Scribner and one I bought 2 years ago. Neither one leaks and the fit and finish are identical. Here is a video that compares Vp vs Scribner jugs and the caps that leak.

I have seen that video and it did push me to buy my first two fuel jugs (schribner) but un fortunately they dont test longevity in that video. I have also not had VP cans leak like that. I suspect the O ring was missing in that cap.

I guess storing a slowly leaking gasoline can in an open shed would not be real dangerous.......except for smokers....but.........if there is some doubt..........I'd THROW IT OUT.

Cheers,
Mike
Even leaking vapor sucks. I had a few blitz cans in long term storage (1yr) that the cap cracked and found them only 3/4 full.

OK, I didn't read all 5 pages, best results for me was to braise the tank. Learned from an old timer 40 some odd years ago. Drain tank, and run an exhaust pipe into it to clear out the fumes. I still to this day braise, although it too few and far between.
Don't know the science, but exhaust fumes neutralize combustable fumes...
