At 34, it looks like you've got a lot of projects ahead of you.
Let me say, if the budget allows, you will never regret the convenience of a quality rotary lazer level. There are huge advantages to being dead nuts on the level rather than just pretty close.
Pop for the tripod and target so one person can level anything with in the range of the instrument.
Some models Also allow the instrument to be laid on it's side to project vertical lines for partition lay out.
