2015 Kubota B2650 HST
I've seen several references to the new B3350 diesel engine being turbo charged. My dealer says it is not. I did a close inspection and could not see a turbo anywhere but it is tight under the hood with that gigantic pollution control canister up there. I Googled and even read the Kubota literature and don't see any reference to a turbo. I've already purchased a new B2650 so this is not a purchase decision, I'd just like to know. If there is a turbo, where is it?

Thanks,

Tom

Could the references you refer to be confusing a turbo for the DPF...Diesel Particulate Filter? The B3350 has a DPF to meet the new emission standards, which has been giving some people headaches, but it is not and has never been turbo charged. The B2650 does not have a DPF, so unless you need the extra HP for larger PTO powered implements, the B2650 is the way to go!

The B3350 is definitely turbo charged.
V1505-T-E4-D26-Q is the engine designation. The T is for turbo charged aspiration. I have looked at the tractors and have seen the turbo which is buried under all the emission garbage.

My understanding, yes, the B3350 does have a turbo. I was looking seriously at them before purchasing the B2650. hjt

Yes on the turbo. Was at a dealer a few months ago, and even he didn't know that until I showed him the plumbing.

A few folks here have gone with the 3350 just to get the turbo for better power at high altitude. I guess it's good to have that option in the lineup.

All:

Thanks everyone. I used all of my Google Fu and could not find any mention of the turbo or a picture of the turbo ANYWHERE on the internet (I'm an IT guy). Yes, there is a T in the engine spec for the B3350.

The specs from the Kubota brochure:

B2650:
Cylinders: 3
Bore & Stroke: 3.1 x 3.5 (78 x 88)
Displacement: cu. in (cc): 77.0 (1261)

B3350:
Cylinders: 4
Bore & Stroke: 3.1 x 3.1 (78 x 78.4)
Displacement: cu. in (cc): 91.5 (1498)

Notes:

1. The B3350 has an engine displacement that is 18.8% larger than the B2650
2. The B3350 has the same bore, an extra cylinder, but a different stroke than the B2650, i.e. it's not just a 4 cylinder version of the B2650 engine (turbo or not)
3. The rated engine HP difference (per Kubota) for the B3350 is 33 HP versus 26 HP for the B2650 which is a 27% increase.
4. The HP ratings for both engines are at 2500 RPM.

Thus.....

It sure seems like there MUST be a turbo on the B3350 as the increase in HP over the B2650 is 27% while the displacement only increases by 18.8%. The shorter stroke of the B3350 certainly can't account for it I don't think. Interesting that the stroke on the B2650 is longer.

I am even MORE glad now that I went with the B2650. Besides the fact that I don't have the regen and extra plumbing, I don't have a turbo to worry about. I live at 600 feet above sea level now, so I don't need the turbo to stuff the air in for me. Turbo's are another item that can and do wear out and cost more money to replace. I don't want a turbo tractor unless I really NEED a turbo tractor.

I just went to Kubota's website and tried to build a B3350 with turbo. Turbo is not an option you can get.

It's not an option , it's the only way you can get the tractor.

Why is the turbo not listed in the spec's?

Daves:

Great point. A turbo is something that works really well for people who live at elevation. My last tractor lived at 9100' in Colorado and I'd prefer a turbo over a non-turbo. Lots of folks do the same with cars and such as the elevation sucks out 25%+ of the HP out of normally aspirated engines. At sea level now in Rhode Island I don't really need it.

NO WHERE in the Kubota literature, that I can find, does it mention a turbo. No pics, no mention, but it does have the T in the model spec for the engine. The B3350's engine is a V1505-T-E4-D26-R and the B2650 is a D1305-E4-D26-R. So the only real engine model numberical difference is the prefix of V1505-T versus D1305. Both are listed as engine type of E-TVCS, liquid cooled 3/4 cylinder diesel.

Thanks for the answers.

Pics of B2650 engine compartment first. And then the B3350 with the additional plumbing. The Turbo must be under there somewhere in the 3350 photos.

How do they keep all that rubber and plastic from melting that close to the DPF??? And no radiation barrier between the top of the DPF and the underside of the hood?? I'm thinking the hood paint is going to suffer!!!!

If you go to Kubota.com parts and look up the B3350, there is a turbo assembly listed in the parts. :D

Beck:

Thanks. As a new (again) owner I didn't know the parts fiches were there. Here's a pic of the turbo with the part numbers. It looks to be bolted directly to the exhaust manifold. Click on the small image and then click again to see the full sized image.

I use those parts diagram pics a lot. They are helpful in understanding how things are assembled. I was in a conversation about how the 4wd worked on a Kubota yesterday. Went to the Kubota website, pulled up parts diagrams for the transmission and could easily understand how the engagement mechanism worked.

I think this may be a picture of the top of the turbo assembly on the 3350. Most of the turbo is hidden but I think the small metal tube on the right is one of the oil supply or return lines. I took this when I was purchasing my 2650. You can see the hood scoop that the 3350 has as well that the 2650 does not.

That is a bummer. I'd struggle getting my mind on business with that new tractor sitting at home. You'll spend your evenings reading up on it thru the Internet!!! I can see the smile on your face from clear over here in Missouri......
