How do you plow snow?

/ How do you plow snow? #381
I've got an older Bolens/Iseki diesel that has a small plow out front and a 3 point blower on the back. If there isn't much snow, ill use the plow. If its wet or deep, I use the blower. I sed to use a back blade on a Sears tractor, with a walk behind blower for deep stuff. I bought the bolens in 2018, wish I'd bought it years before.

This week I used my loader. Pushed most of it. Back dragged after that. Yep... Back dragged with a Korean tractor and didn't bend the cylinders, because I used float 🤣

To the left of the driveway is a three foot drop. Without a snowblower once the ridge built up to the point where there was no room to push any more snow to the side it was multiple trips with the bucket to haul it to level ground. Now, with the Meteor reverse blower, two passes and I'm done. You can see to the left how far it tosses snow. To the right below the trees you can make out the bottom curve of a sled run I create every winter for kids in the village. I angle the chute to create that berm to keep them on course.

Good to see your still making dust. :)

Back blade and bucket. Not really enough snow here to warrant specific snow removal equipment but given the 2.5 miles of gravel roads I help maintain I'd probably opt for a snow plow attachment for the front of my QA equipped loader if I were to add something.

Brutal winter here so far. Temps barely into double digits during the day and below zero every night going on for two weeks now. Spent hours removing the snow from above the soffits. Took a ride through the nearby village yesterday and was amazed at how many homes with shingled roofs had very large ice dams. Only about three ranch style home owners were smart enough to pull off the edges around their roofs. Gonna be a lot of repairs required in the spring.
I signed the 11K contract last week to replace our roof shingles with standing seam metal.

If the houses were properly insulated, thered be no ice dams. We used to get some, than redid attic insulation. Have not had any since.

Only 2 places still got them. Above garage doors and on patio overhang. Self regulating heat tape eliminated that also.

I Played in the Snow all day, and we haven't had any since Tuesday.

At work, under all the Service Vehicles parked in the Lot, Then back on the Lake.

Slush is coming up Bad. The worst part is, "People who Help" but put the Bank on both sides.

Then, when the Main Bank gets Too High to push the Snow Over, the road get narrower and Narrower. The Main Bank sinks from the weight (and lack of Ice from being Insulated all Winter).

So a Bank on the otherside, needs to be pulled over to the Slushy Side. It's a lot of work, The bank is froze stiff, and Slush i (not much) has started under it too, because the Bare Ice Road crowns from having more Ice built underneath.

Eventually the Bank Side Ice, shears, lifts 6-7"s and the Slush disappears.

That's the advantage of using a FEL plow. When the banks get too high, you can push snow up and over the frozen bank by operating the tractor at a 45 degree angle to the road. Takes me a while to do the 1.25 mile private road, but it allows me to maintain two lanes of traffic.

This is the first year using a snow pusher. I have a large area between the house and pole barn I keep cleared. The pusher is doing a much better job than the V-plow I had on the F250. I have piles about seven feet high in some areas and I pick up much less gravel.

Good morning tbn crew! We got home from camp 6ish last night and had a wonderful weekend at camp but as mentioned earlier, on Friday was in Ironwood MI for a old snowcat event. In the below video I go past near the start. More photos will be in "Keweenaw snow pics" thread and I'd get ahead of them and take some shots as they passed. One Tucker was rather dated and believe built in the 50s.

We have 2 feet of snow on the ground here.
I have been plowing with my truck so far all winter. But today I headed out with the tractor.

26_2_13-7.JPG

I needed to make more room in a couple places that I stack snow with the truck plow like this square turn. It was all hard packed.

And this fork where the crotch is filled in -

After

Then I broke 0.2 miles of trail pulling my saw so I could cut a dead fir tree that fell across during the storm last weekend.
