ANOTHER ELECTRICAL QUESTION

   / ANOTHER ELECTRICAL QUESTION #101
Pooping in the dark is fun. Cleaning yourself not so much.

Makita could learn a thing or two about cab-tire I think. My favourite grinder had such a nice cord over my other Chinesium units. Their cords are still as stiff and ugly as new though. Happened when not that old. I have nice flexible cab-tire as old as me!

So I hve a circuit leaving my elecrical panel that I wish to have on a UPS. How to do that by code? Remove Romex from panel, intall in a junction box. Run cab tire out of junction box to UPS outlet. I don't think that's to code?

Why not just put a UPS on the device you want to keep running?

I have too many UPSes around. I would like to have a larger centralized one in the basement that will run a bunch of circuits. I would love to build a house with built in Emergency lighting and UPS back up circuits. More practical than ever with LED lighting. Never find yourself in the dark.
As it is, one of the circuits I would like to run off UPS is one of the heaviest loaded (by wattage and outlet numbers) in the house.

I think I read somewhere that the NEC views a UPS like you want to use the same way it views a generator. You'd have to wire it permanently into the system. To do that, you'd have a normal outlet feeding your UPS. That's a typical rubber power cord plugged in. Then you'd have another rubber cord feeding a sub-panel with the circuits that you want the UPS to operate. I think all the neutrals would be tied together.

Look at that link I sent you, there's several diagrams of how that would work.

The lights are all fed from my sub-panel. Without powering that my wife will still be pooping in the dark. Personally I like to poop in the dark. My wife, not so much.

That's what flashlights and lanterns are for. Portable, battery powered LED lanterns will light a room to almost normal. I have a variety of oil lamps too.

I have that. I strung 12V wire to several LED yard light type flood light heads. Painted them to match the rooms so you never notice them. All connected to a 35Ah sealed battery on a float charger. A relay on utility power is the switch. Power goes out, relay drops, lights come on. They're not normal room brightness, but enough that you can see easily.
