    Infested with UTVs?

If they were operating in a 'something close to sane' way, I would not be whining about it. If they are sideways in a turn, on the wrong side of the gravel road and force my family to swerve off the road, I'd call that "impeding" other traffic. I'm not talking about Arly maintaining the trails...

Interesting. I was under the impression that once you chose a lens, you were stuck with it and it couldn't be changed. I've heard from many people that they were not happy with 'monovision' on the lens replacement. With my desire for depth perception in motorbiking and sports, there was no...

Your Internet went down? I wonder what caused it?

I'll bet the poor fellow in the picture wishes he was wearing a face mask at that moment!

Was one of you pulling this trailer?

Looks like some kind of insurance fraud/play to me. (??)

Why do we like trails so much?

A bit over 400 acres. Mostly woods. :)

Why do we like trails so much?

With 17 miles of single track on my property, I spend a lot of time working them by hand. Loppers and chainsaw mostly. The dirtbikes actually keep a pretty good path to hike on, too.

Cost to asphalt a gravel road?

It costs me right at $2500 to have a neighbor with a tandem dump truck spread my whole driveway and access road that length with good limestone rock. Then I can make it almost pavement smooth with my tractor. I was also quoted about 50 grand by an asphalt contractor 15 years ago. I'm so...

How to know when your parents may not want to drive anymore?

It was a very tough time for me. Dad's car would have new, unexplained body damage that he wouldn't comment on. Making him lose his independence/driving was very difficult and emotional. I haven't met many that will turn in the keys voluntarily. :(

    Renting a Cat 953D - Stupid Idea?

I have an area behind my pond that was left a mess by a friend with a backhoe when he fixed a leak in it. It's been a weedy mess ever since, and the area behind it has a pretty sharp gully that's about 100 feet long and 40 feet deep. I've smoothed it out with my FEL but it's still really...

    Who rides motorcycles?

A street principle I had to 'unlearn' at the racetrack while I was working down to an AMA qualifier pace. Of course that's on warmed race tires with proper body position... you work toward braking all the way to the apex improving lean angle by 15-degrees, where you transition to throttle...

    Who rides motorcycles?

I love riding the Ozarks in my backyard... and other to NW Arkansas. I also do track days about once a month, three seasons a year.

How Warm Should My Cutter's Gearboxes Get?

UPDATE: Well, two 40 mile trips back and forth to the dealer with a 10-foot wide load, not entertaining on small roads with oncoming traffic... my cutter's gearbox has been replaced under warranty. After I finally talked to Titan Implement, I don't think the delay was their fault... because...

How Warm Should My Cutter's Gearboxes Get?

That's good to know. I'd say the boxes are right at 140 then, or just above that. The gearbox on my 6-footer never gets much warmer than ambient. I agree that I should have double checked the lube in the boxes, but the manual was fairly explicit about being factory-lubed. (copied pic...

How Warm Should My Cutter's Gearboxes Get?

My six foot cutter has a gearbox that calls for 90wt gear oil. I would call it a noisy gearbox, generating a pretty noisy hum... but even on hot days cutting tall stuff, I'm surprised it never gets very warm. It's never given me a problem either. I also have a fairly new (less than 20...

    Drawbar Adapter

SOLVED! I got the piece back from the welder and finally had a chance to get the cutter back together. I'm glad my 14-year old son is bigger than me, so he could help me get it finished. It's PERFECT! The only downside I see is the maximum height is compromised a little, but it should...

    Drawbar Adapter

This is EXACTLY what I was looking to do at beginning of this journey... but the 'Drawbar Adapter' from the title of the post would move the hitch pin MUCH closer to the ground. In my crooked terrain, I'll be I would be dragging the ground with it in some situations where the rear wheels are...

    Drawbar Adapter

If I could have a machine shop put a nice bend in this heavy 4x4 steel bar, it would solve my problem, too. (This is the 8-foot model of my cutter) So, is my best bet to remove this piece and take it to a trailer mfg shop?

    Drawbar Adapter

It is a Titan 1800P pull type. I haven't been able to find a picture of one on a tractor. This is all I could find back when I bought it, and still today... Like I said, I'm happy with how the cutter performs, but I have to solve the driveshaft clearance issue.

    Drawbar Adapter

I'll get a picture of my setup as soon as I can get out there. (Have to work in the city 5 days a week) Now I'm REALLY thinking my tow piece (tongue) is mounted upside down on my cutter, because it would look exactly like the one in this picture of it were inverted. Boy, do I feel dumb...
  123. Liquidsilver

    Drawbar Adapter

Thanks Coby, I'll look at that. I don't think I described it very well, but it's the tongue of the cutter, a large 4x4 steel structure that goes from the tractor's draw bar to the deck of the cutter. It's very cumbersome (NOT like the one in this picture) and doesn't give the driveshaft...

    Drawbar Adapter

I feel like I'm looking for something that should be easy to find, but I'm not finding it. I'm using my M5400DT to pull my 10-foot pull-type rotary cutter and it pulls easily and cuts even the heavy stuff very well. My only problem is, using my fixed drawbar, there's very little clearance...

Making hay with a Willys Farm Jeep

You inspired me to find a picture and sure enough, odds are if there was a picture of the thing, I was in the drivers seat... They were really tiny vehicles and I had patio furniture cushions to boost me and help me reach the pedals. Occasionally my sisters would 'steal' it from...

    M5400DT Front Axle Seals

I'm using the heavier gear oil in the front axle of my tractor and it's started leaking out so fast I'm finally ready to do something about it. I read here on the forum about a gentleman replacing his own seals, and it looks like others here do it themselves. Even so, I think it looks...

    Can these be shortened?

If I buy more tractor, I'd still like to pull it into my barn that has a standard height garage door. My current tractor fits by folding down the ROPS and I had to shorten the exhaust pipe by about 6 inches. The new guys have those fat, combo pipes. Can they be shortened?

    Hydraulic Oil Disposal

My bush hogging operations are late this year, but before operating in the high heat, I decided to change the fluids in my Kubota 50-horse. I don't have any problem dropping off a few gallons of used engine oil at the auto parts store for recycling... but what do I do with 11 gallons of...

Communication Tower Site on my Property?

I'm being approached by a company saying they're interested in 'leasing' a 100x100 foot area on my property for a telecommunications tower. Understandable, as I have a very nice, scenic view from my country house, and I'll bet they'd want to be there on the same tall hill as my house. In...

    Time to Replace My Seat

I've gained tons of experience in my first year of large (to me) tractor ownership... and thanks in part to people on this forum for the friendly counsel, I've really enjoyed maintaining my own gravel road, clearing off broken trees, re-grading a mess left by a sloppy highlift operator and...

    Holy Muffler M5400

My first 'big' tractor is my 1999 Kubota M5400 4x4. Most of the hours since I've had it have gone into mowing my rough fields with a 6' Modern Ag rotary cutter. I've learned lots of lessons already, including how to replace a ruptured hydraulic line on the FEL. I had a muffler shop...
