Finally got power after tornado.

^^ The difference in this type of event is that the numbers of displaced are a few thousand and most can stay with family or friends a couple of miles from where home was. Others can stay in motels/hotels close by that will be paid for by insurance or government grants. With a tornado, even of this scale, buildings a half mile away are virtually untouched.

We're not talking about hundreds of thousands of people that have to be moved a few hundred miles away. With a hurricane, buildings are destroyed for miles in all directions.

Hotels in the tornado area are limited because it is not a tourist destination. Near the ocean where hurricanes hit, hotels are dime a dozen compared to w Kentucky.

LBL is a national recreation area and coupled with State Parks the area is a huge tourist draw. Two large dams form Lake Barkley and Kentucky Lake that are major boating and fishing destinations. There are resort hotels in a few nearby locations, though not as many as coastal areas. And Nashville isn't far.

That's good then.....it will help. All the workers coming from outside the area need rooms too. (y)

I've heard several people say that flooding the zone with 'supplies' creates a challenge for people trying to help because there gets to be too much stuff.

I trust Samaritans Purse with cash donations instead because they've proven themselves in other disasters. I witnessed them serving in the Joplin tornado aftermath and they were golden. There is also a Kentucky state resource for donating funds to victims.

Sending prayers and support to all these folks.

All of the old downtown churches are total losses. The courthouse is a total loss. Two new, less than ten year, bank buildings are total losses. City government buildings total loss. Heard than six non commercial buildings over $50 million.

Large nursing home had a tornado drill five hours before the event. Only two minor injuries with 74 residents.

People are flooding the area with supplies. Churches and, believe it or not, individuals are bringing in car and bus loads. Some out of town individuals have shown up in pickup trucks with a gas grill and coolers in the back and just started cooking and handing out food.

Sisters went to our mothers grave, stopped at McDonald’s to get a coke and were handed sandwiches and drinks but were not allowed to pay. Tried to explain that they weren’t some of the displaced but money was not accepted. I get ticked off at McDonald’s sometimes but them something like that happens or I think of my oldest’s experiences with the Ronald McDonald Houses.

Churches of Christ, they have no organization above individual churches, have trailers and supplies just for events like this. I think they are all here.

Homeless are staying with friends, neighbors, or “new friends”. Nobody is sleeping in the open. Well, one eighty year old refused to leave his front yard pup tent.

The tornadoes were so violent they showed up on seismographs.

Somebody broke in to WKRECC, power company, trucks and stole all the tools. If caught the linemen have threatened to string them up on a 480-volt 3-phase.

Talked to youngest daughter’s M-I-L today and she said the small town of Cayce, KY was just gone. Only businesses there were a restaurant and store and a dozen houses. She said all were gone.

Schools out at least a week. Need to get the kids back to class.

We are staying out of downtown. Too much work going on and too many sightseers. Plus the shop that repaired the nail in my daughter’s tire said I was the 51st they had repaired that day.

Life goes on.

Will it be worth while rebuilding the downtown before totally upgrading the sewer/water/power?

Sewage treatment plant state of the art a few years ago. Nephew had to go to Canada to be trained on it, then city got paid when he traveled to troubleshoot other towns system. Sewage plant and system took a direct hit from tornado. Don’t know what they will do.

Took my disabled neighbor to eye doctor and shopping. Lowes is the only big box hardware store in town. They have trailers set up for showers, toilets, food, and tool rental. Have brought in extra help from as far away as St Louis. One guy told they were pulling merchandise from other stores and the mayfield store has preference over all others for warehoused product. Semis everywhere.

Had two different Walmart employees try to give me free breakfast. Said they had brought in eighty employees from out of the area to help.

Guess I will assist at the fairgrounds tonight boxing supplies.

Oh yeah, we had a visitor today. And people are pi$$ed about it. Lot of stuff and people coming in thru our small airport and it all had to be stopped for the day. Our house is near the instrument approach and there has been a lot heavier traffic than normal and today nothing.

Watching many of the drone footage I noticed the lack of evidence of a wall plate being anchored into the concrete slab. We normally anchor a wall plate every two feet, then the wall gets nailed to that.

if you don’t mind, how did the Pilgrims Pride plant fare? I know they are a large employer there and many broiler farms.
Sorry for everyone’s struggle there.
