The need for manual labor is an understatement. There is just SOOO much work to be done...it is staggering.

One thing I've noticed as I watch a nearby area that was hit by a F3 in October, 2001, just a few weeks after 9-11. The trees that didn't get toppled were stripped bare of small branches. Several large woods were destroyed. Many homes damaged or leveled. To this day, after the homes have been either rebuilt or torn down and the land left vacant, it's hard for me to recognize the area and remember what was where before the storm. When you can see clear through an area that was once heavily wooded, it somehow throws you off.

Large trees like that take 100 years to grow. I'll never see a semblance of what it looked like before in the rest of my lifetime.

And that's what people are going to have to deal with. The drastic change of familiar surroundings.

Just as you had to look up the meaning of C&D, I had to look up the meaning of "cathartic". 🤓
I looked it up too, before I posted it, because I hadn't used the word in decades and couldn't remember if it meant what I thought it did. 🙃

Great word use by you all! No trash talk here.

I visited my great grandmothers home a couple of times. She was famous in the family for refusing to go into the cellar in the face of a tornado coming across the valley straight at the house. 70 years or so later you could still see the tornado path, aimed right at the house. The tornado turned right and went down stream when it hit the creek in the valley floor.

I don't know how long it takes to regrow, but after the quick regrowth the first few years, it is a long time. Much easier to rebuild homes, as enormous a task as that is. Maples take their own sweet time.

Stay safe!

All the best,

Peter

Yeah, these beautifully timbered lake shore properties are no more. For a home owner at maximum debt ratio this could be the end. With construction cost inflation alone they will likely be underinsured.

Hurts my heart to see so much devastation. Praying for these folks and the safety of your loved ones working to restore it.

Re: Samaritan’s Purse

Yesterday evening we saw a young lady who seemed very distraught in the area of Walnut Street. Her home was destroyed in the tornado. She was digging through the rubble attempted to locate the ashes of her son that had been stored in the home.

This morning we contacted the Samaritans Purse organization that is in town helping victims. They arrived at the home of this lady and against all odds, located the cremation container of her son.

This is just one of many stories about the great work they are doing for all of us.

Thank you!

I asked Kelly if they were allowed to work thru the weekend because of the holiday and she said yes. Most times they suspend relief thru holidays. I'm guessing they are wanting to utilize every day the weather allows because of the season.

We are now having trouble with thieves driving in from out of state to steal whatever they can get. They have arrested three individuals/carloads at an intersection about a quarter mile from my sister's house this week. There are sheriff's deputies from many Kentucky counties and policemen from many Kentucky towns and cities assisting in the area.

It is very interesting to be friends with the Graves County Sheriffs Department on Facebook.

Nearly all arrests have found meth in the vehicles.

Somebody robbed a check cashing place this afternoon and had a running gun battle with KSP on 45 North from Mayfield towards Paducah. Wrecked and took off on foot and they have about five miles of the highway blocked off. This is still ongoing as I type BUT shooting at the Kentucky State Police is a very BAD idea. They tend to shoot back, reload, and keep shooting.

A friend of mine pointed a pistol at a KSP officer a few years ago. It was a very sad funeral.

Talked to the guy over the Mayfield School System bus garage today. Part of their location was destroyed, part damaged. First thing they had to do was put up a new fence around the place. Had too many people wandering in to see what they could pick up. Said they had chased out many from Kansas of all places. When somebody suspicious comes snooping around they immediately take their picture and pictures of their car and license plate.

Clerk followed me out of Lowes today and started putting bags of charcoal in my car. Conversation went like this, (me) "What the he11 are you doing?" (clerk) "I have to get rid of this charcoal!" (me) "I don't use it." (her) "Then give it to somebody that does. I've got to get rid of it!"

I took one for my son in law and she followed me out to my car and put two bags (actually eight small bags wrapped together) in my vehicle before I could shut the back.

Life goes on!
