About desulfating:
The bigger Noco, Pulsetech Xtreme, BatteryMinder are excellent if given enough time. Problem is you gotta measure that with a calendar.
I pair Ctek with a homebrew small desulfator (kick back) and it works the same as the others. You need a calendar. Some batteries it isn’t a problem because they are parked a lot.

Why the whole jazz? Because I get at least double or triple the battery life than without it. Otherwise I go broke buying batteries every 2-3 years for ever machine or toy. Piles up fast!
I very rarely need a charger, but maintainers are a must for me.

Similarly, I don't expect desulfation to work overnight, but over years and decades it sure does.

I don't know the exact number at this point, but with some 100 batteries in vehicles, tractors, and trailers, like you I have had to learn what works and what doesn't.

Decades ago, Shumacher was top-of-the-line in chargers. Unfortunately, that is no longer the case. I just don't trust their stuff anymore.

However, I know nothing about this particular model. I'm sure it puts juice into the battery. Whether it does so reliably and in an appropriate manner I'll leave to one of those YouTube test channels.

These chargers are cheap for a reason. There is no way you get something decent for that kind of money with a booster pack. This may start a lawn tractor or a lawn mower. But if you thing it will start a car with a click click dead battery, you need something else. Been there done that too. Started with something cheap and smaller, could start my car with a dead battery, ended up buying the big Noco GBX 155 boost pack. No regrets or worries there. So far it started all I got.
There are even bigger units twice and three times the size of the big Noco boost pack, have like 10000A to 15000A and made for 18 wheelers to boost. Also cost a lot more money, but it starts large diesels like there is no tomorrow.

Ditto. I've got a couple of the older transformer ones that are over 15 years old and they work like a charm. A newer one I had fried a battery in my bike, the warranty replacement attempted to do the same and after trying to get another under warranty all I got were crickets. Never again for Schumacher.

Those little Noco Genius chargers are just trouble. Not sure if they fixed that problem now, but I did have a small Noco Genius 2 on the bench. Killed the battery and itself. It was 7 months old. I fixed it faster than him sending it back for a warranty exchange. Had another one that was about 1.5 years old. Same thing. I put a more beefy part inside and it is still working.

Motormaster and Schumacher battery chargers are utter garbage. Also kill the battery and itself. Not worth a penny.
When these chargers killed the battery how long were they on the battery?

I have both a Noco genius 1 and a Schumacher that is about 5 years old. I don’t leave them on a battery for more than 12 hours. Just wondering if they are safe to use for a short time until the battery is fully charged.

My NOCO 10, reccomended here, has charged my truck just fine. I plan to try it on the old farmall super A that uses a 6volt system, see how it does there. If it switches to 6v automatically and appears to be charging ok, I'll leave it on for 12 hrs or so then check the battery out.
What is hard to understand is why our manufaturing industry thinks its good business to stop making quality and switch to junk. Ok I get it, they want to boost sales and if no good stuff is being made now we as consumers are stuck with their crap! Why any CEO can't see making quality would sell like crazy is beyond me. What would you pay for the old 20 plus years service from a well made charger made in the usa? I would gladly buy one.

They make the cheap stuff because that is what sells. For many American consumers, they talk about wanting quality, but don't put their money where there mouth is: when it comes time to buy, they are shopping on price.

If we stopped buying cheap junk, and rewarded manufacturers of quality stuff with our business (and were willing to pay a premium for it), we'd see more manufacturers putting their efforts into quality.

i might be alone here, but always look/shop for the best made products not just what is cheap.

Agree, I call it the race to the bottom. I believe manufacturers focus on reducing costs to meet consumer demand at the expense of quality or customer service.
Before I retired I was managing one of the most profitable businesses of a large multinational company, but was forced to reduce costs (prices) to increase market share. Basically trading profitably for volume.

They were used as maintainers, both of them. One was on a motorcycle, the other on a lawn mower. They were on the battery for around 8 weeks. The Noco blew a diode, but it was connected to the battery so the Noco and the battery went. Couldn’t recover it.

I think that way too, if it is a good product. BUUUUUT: I’ve been also caught with expensive junk that also failed within a similar timeframe. Then not being serviceable because it is too complicated and everything is expected to throw away instead of repair. The right to repair is another thing that doesn’t seem to exist anymore.
I am doing a whole bunch of research now before I buy a big ticket item. So far it did pay off for me.

I just ordered a similar rated one from them but the model # is different. Figured it must have an actual transformer because it weighs 12 lb. Northern tool says 1/2 off - amazon is selling it for $175 .

Should arrive tomorrow. We will see. It will get used on the diesel backhoe and dual battery trucks and tractors when needed. My old and well built 1980's (Schauer) unit died again, had replaced some connections a few years back. It was completely submerged in water while charging a few times over the decades. When I get time will pull the cover again and see if the transformer is still OK. If it is I will definitely repair it again.

ps. bought one of the cheap $12 temu units, has pulse and fan cooling but can only push a max 6 amps, works fine for the motorcycle, riding mower, and DR mower. weighs next to nothing, I recharged the RAMs dual batteries when the old unit failed. Took over a day.
