6/12v battery charger recommendations?

I've got several battery tenders & a smart 12v charger that will do up to 80@ as well as a jump pack or 2. Generally my smart charger does fine for most things.

However these days I also have a 6v 1966 JD 420 crawler loader in need of a charger & my current ones won't do 6v. I also recently mis diagnosed a bad starter I pulled out of the crawler. Hitting the terminal directly with a small 12v lithium jump pack failed to do anything. I'm assuming the smart electronics outsmarted me & were the issue rather than the starter.

Any sources for a good 6/12v old transformer style charger that isn't smart & will tolerate doing some dumb stuff like testing a starter out of the vehicle? Or are any of the modern 6/12v silicon chargers any good for charging & messing around with stuff?

I was of the old school, transformer only chargers. Then I seen how this machine performed. None of my major brand name transformer chargers could successfully bring a battery back from literally the dead. When this one did 2 fully dead batteries back to life, I bought the charger. One dead was a 550CCA and the other was a 950CCA.

it can be forced to charge 0 volt batteries etc, and has a power supply option as well, does 6v as well as lithium

be aware there are no battery chargers that are going to make a starter work properly. a jump pack should give you the couple seconds to see it spin.

jump packs need to see voltage to fire up, there should be a light that comes on. otherwise you need to press the boost or whatever button to turn on the jump pack on super low batteries.

I am pretty sure you can find what your looking for at Harbor Freight ! I picked this charger up many years ago, both 6 and 12 volt with a start option ! I use it on my 6 v tractors and my Ford Model A !

I have a Schumacher roll around charger I got from TSC years ago. 6&12 volt. Starting current on both.

I wasn't looking for "works properly", I was using a 12v pack on a 6v starter. I was hoping for a click & enough signs of life. I figured it was iffy to test & that the booster pack may have been the issue, but it's about all I had at the time. Starter is now repaired. Looking for something I can override like you mentioned.

I picked up a Schumacher Electric Wheeled Battery Charger and Jump Starter, SC1446, 2-in-1, Manual Timer-Controlled, 200 Cranking Amps, 6 Volt, 12 Volt, For Car, SUV, Truck, and Marine Batteries Amazon.com. Same thing & price as at TSC, but no hour round trip to pick it up. Time will tell if it was $150 well spent or not. Hopefully my automatic 12v unit keeps doing the unattended normal battery stuff. This should do fine for 6v, emergency starting & testing that smarts will try & thwart.
