How do you plow snow?

I use an inverted Meteor snowblower, sitting comfortably in my heated cab listening to rock n roll on the stereo.

Finally got some snow. 6” overnight…but it’s due to warm up again

We got about 2 to 2 1/2 inches of snow, sleet freezing rain on frozen ground. If finally quit flurrying about 1 this afternoon. So I went out and used the back blade to try and scrape most of it off. Then dropped the back blade off and hooked up the sander and loaded it to sand the driveway. So 3 hours later scrapped and sanded.

We got 1.5" Monday night, which I cleaned off the walks and up/down the driveway and to eliminate slippery spots near the house.

Then the Tuesday night storm was to be 2" snow and 1/8" ice, well it was all ice only an 1/8" but stayed at 30* all morning so was sanding time with my bags of sand and ice melt and yak tracks on boots.

It warmed up this afternoon to 34* so its mostly gone but some patches remain all ice - just have to be careful walking - broken ribs twice on ice!

Last week while I was plowing in the single digit weather after the ice storm with the defroster on full heat to keep the windshield clear I tried to crack the window to get some air. I guess I reefed to hard on the window crank one to many times in the 24 years I've run this truck because the crank turned but the window stayed frozen in place. I could here the mechanism going up and down in the door. Fearing the window would drop down into the door panel I stuck it in place, I hope, by running tape over the door frame.

This morning I had to plow another 5" and it was warm enough to thaw the window and it held.
After the ice storm I put the chains on the truck.

I'll take the door panel off next warmish day we get.

GG - like your window fix! that's thinking ahead, and yes ice is the worst.

Daughter lives in the Smoky Mtns. roads are narrow, hilly terrain, they get the occasional ice storm, but when it happens its dangerous as they don't deal with these conditions often.

Up here in Mass.. Its been a cold and windy winter.. It started early in November with low temps.. No snow but just friggin cold. I think I have plowed snow 2x this year.. I hope it's over. It looks like we get the January thaw at the end of this week with high 40s in temps.

I was sent to Dallas on a service call many moons ago. Over night they had a wicked ice storm. The temp suddenly dropped to 5* and it was drizzling. I walked out of the hotel and couldn't begin to walk. The people down there didn't seem to have any idea that you could not drive on that stuff. There were cars all over the road. They thought if you couldn't get going you just needed more gas ??? Someone hit a hydrant and broke it off. By the next morning there was a huge ice sculpture formed from the geyser. No sign of city sanding equipment any where.

How do y'all remove snow? Plow truck, snowblower, 3-point back blade, etc.
Our primary snow mover is the 1989 Jeep Cherokee XJ with a 6'6" Western snowplow. It does a real good job with a front diff lock, 5 speed with the 4.0L. It's nice to have a heated cab. Traction becomes an issue in wet, sloppy spring snows though. View attachment 4419913
I use this LS MT357 with LW3174A-74" snowblower

My neighbor got used skid steer a few years ago, also came with attached snow blower. First couple years he used mostly the snow blower but as far as I can tell he hasn’t used the blower this year he’s been using the bucket, appears he somehow managed to collide with the nice steel sheeting on the side of the shop.

2 farmers down the road.

1 has a massive sized snow blower attachment to one of his big cab over 4x4 tractor. I bet it 8-9' wide. I swear it blow 20-30 yds into the side field.
Guessing his drive about 1200' or more.

2 closer one to me used a big cab over 4x4 tractor with a betting 9' rear plow.
He saved my azz one winter when I blew a line way back on my place.
His drive prob 700' or more.

Then for me 700' or more 3 plow set ups over the years.
Love the boss plow I own now. Owned northman super heavy duty, meyer and boss.
Shown opening her up after a good one.

@BossofBBQ since you talked about your jeep set up. My first one was this 80 or 81 AMC Jeep Cherokee with the northman super delux on it. All the hydraulics stuff was under hood.

Straight 6 too.

Thinking only 2 pics I have left of the old girl.

Old 2 story 70x55 barn in back ground. It got leveled in 2006 by 100mph straight line winds.

^New for this year, and of course, we've had almost no plowable snow. Just some slush that was easily scrapped off with the snowpush.

Reasoning: Used the rear blade first because it was cheap. Then Parents resealed the driveway and didn't want a metal edge on the sealant. So the snowpush with a stiff rubber edge was purchased. That worked well for a little while, but the second picture was about all it could handle snow wise (Maybe most of that was my fault, maybe I just needed more weight on the L3901) so this fall I picked up the blower. I'm itching to put it to use! Might get my chance this week but time will tell!

Looking good. Is that a Woods blower? What size? Congrats on the new attachment, hope you get to try it out soon.
