I "fixed" my new plastic gas containers with Amazon.com: 𝟏𝟎 𝐏𝐜𝐬 Gas can Vents for Plastic Gas Cans, Gas Can Vent Caps, Yellow Fuel Gas Can Jug Vents/Cap Replacement : Automotive

Now the question is, will the prices for a 5-gallon plastic can drop from $32 back to $12 like they once were.
Doubt that.
There'll be engineering costs to design a vent system that they already had decades ago, setup costs to design and fabricate the new equipment again that they had decades ago, new delivery costs just because. The inevitable higher costs because it's a new, improved item.
I will say tho, Costco around here has been selling a pair of 20L cans with vent for CAN$45 which is US$33 for years and that's delivered, less in store. They have the stupid ratchet locks around the fill but a utility knife fixes that.

That’s a pretty good deal, MM. Are they selling a yellow diesel version? Or just red?

I drilled these into my current, nanny state 5 gallon cans. They help.
But activating the button while holding a 5G can up at waist height without spilling isn’t easy when it’s full without spilling fuel.

The nanny state cans are so stupid. Probably designed by faculty lounge types.

Really good deal.
Unfortunately no, nothing a spray can of yellow won't fix tho, I've only got a small diesel tractor and don't go thru much diesel and they don't make 10L diesel cans so I spray them yellow, lasts pretty good too.

Yup, someone that barely knows where the fuel fill neck is on a car never mind a tractor.

The problem I had with the vents is the cap lanyard breaks. I went with drilled holes and rubber stoppers. Most of the time I fill using a funnel and no nozzle at all. No vent needed, just pour at a rate that doesn't make the can GLUG GLUG.

I have two NO-SPILL cans from TSC. One is a 1-1/4 gallon can for the 2 cycle stuff. It is the ticket for filling small equipment without slopping. The button provides excellent control. The other can is a 2-1/2 gallon that is used for filling the pressure washer, etc where slopping gasoline on a hot engine makes me cringe. It's also useful for stopping on the gallon mark on the smaller can when mixing another batch of 2 cycle fuel.

I find this as a sad commentary on today's world. Before the EPA edicts I don't recall any major discussions about gas cans. Some may have worked better than others but you just found one you liked and that is what you bought. There may have been pouring issues with the old cans but it wasn't a major topic.

Enter the EPA with their edict and we are all up in arms about the cans. But it is a good thing the EPA told them to add vents. I'm sure no one in the gas can industry was smart enough to realize that adding a vent would improve flow.

So is the gas can industry that stupid, do they not care, or is it not as simple as the EPA makes it out to be? Just shaking my head over the whole issue.

Lucky for me the last gas can I bought was over 20 years ago when I had to add diesel to my line up.
