Nearly impossible to have the creature comforts you want while retainin offroad capability.![]()
Well, I guess that depends on your version of "off-roading". I think for some folks, driving down a dusty dirt road is off-roading, but for other folks (I believe you may be included) it takes a lot more. I would like to see a new version of the early Bronco come back and I would be interested in buying one, but it would fall far short of being an off road ride for me. I agree, a solid front axle would be a nice start.
I also have plans to build a early Bronco (71/72) myself. There's a few other projects ahead of it, but I have been gathering parts for a few months. It will be more of a street ride. Something that the wife and I can ride around in on the weekends and enjoy. However... the plan still calls for a full 4 link front and rear, a set of Dana 60's, 39.5 boggers and a 7.3 power stroke.
Excellent post!!!! Best of this thread!!!!
P.S. No pics, it didn't happen.....![]()
The Bronco was never a car. And it's 30 year run was only in name. Only common ground between the 3 different versions was 4 tires.
Seriously? Car is a generic term, and you know it. You're just trying to argue for argument's sake...not exactly a surprise.
Many/most successful automobile (like that better?) lines have been redesigned as time went on, and the name stayed the same, but that doesn't make them any less successful.
The F-150 averages 5 years between major redesigns....completely new vehicles with the same name.
Disregard. Since you seem intent on derailing this thread....time for unsubscribe and ignore list.
Should I resurrect this project,,,?
A 65 Willys, CJ5,, all aluminum body, from the dash back,,,

There is even an aluminum gas tank,,,

I could put a Bronco drivetrain under it,,, but,, it would have to have an LS engine,,,

If they do anything like Toyota did with the FJ cruiser it'll be a total waste. The FJ cruiser was a total joke and clearly made to appeal to soccer moms and was nothing like the real FJ40 land cruiser.
It's from Australia. 2 16 Ford Everest, 7 Seater Family SUV | Ford AustraliaYeah, the Jeep heritage is a mixed bag for sure!!!!
Is that Everest model a rebadged Explorer?? Is that a European offering?
I figured if Ford came thru with the Bronco it would need something unusual in it's line to squeeze into the small gap available with their other models??

I see Ford is saying it won't be a tweaked Everest, which makes sense too. It will be a little more of a redesign for the U.S. just like the Ranger will be. But the Everest is built on the same base as the Ranger. 4 doors, seating 7 people. Larger than the old Ranger size (which is where the Explorer came from), so seems to be a level above the current Explorer. More truck like but I'd call it a comfortable road SUV that's capable of some relatively rough off roading like a truck. But not a purpose built crawler. That's just my take on it all from what I have read. I'm sure their direction will change 7 times between now and when it shows up.![]()
When we test drove one, I only went 2 miles and pulled off the road and asked Terry if she wanted to drive back? She said no. We went back to the dealer.
The thing that still sticks in my mind the most. The tailgate swings like a door. The hinges are on the driver's side. Think about that for a few seconds..........![]()
You can't see out of the things, it was like sitting in a cave fer pity sake. The things are completely worthless off road. I watched as some clown totally destroyed a brand new one on the Rubicon a few years ago. Of course nether he nor the FJ had any business being on the trail.
So it sounds like the Bronco will be a U.S. version of the Ford Everest. 4 doors only. Built to compete with Jeep. Getting back to Ford's roots, since they designed the famous Jeep grill and headlights during the government contracts in the beginning.
