Ford Bronco back by 2020

It IS happening...well, except for that fake pic. It will be produced at Michigan Assembly Plant that currently produces the Focus. It will be built alongside the Ranger, and another as-yet-unannounced SUV. You can take it to the bank!

The Bronco died for a couple reasons. One is that it got away from it's roots. It grew too large, and got away from it's original idea. Secondly, the market for 2-door SUVs dried up. Everybody wanted 4 doors, so the Expedition was born. Basing the Bronco on the Ranger will bring the size back down to where it should be instead of basing it on the full-size truck.

Expect the 2020 Bronco to come in both 2 door and 4 door versions (just like the Wrangler). I would expect the Bronco to be an easier to live with Wrangler. It will have near the same off road capability, but be a much more friendly vehicle to drive on road, and will be available with all the creature comforts if you want them.

As far as whether I would buy one or not, it depends on the final product. We will be replacing our Flex about that time, and if the on road ride and creature comforts are up to spec, I would love to have one. However, the Flex is my wife's daily driver, so she will have the final say on it's replacement. She can choose any vehicle as long as it's a Ford (or Lincoln, but we can't afford them)! :)

It's coming for the '19 model year. The US version will get a new front end treatment and unique engines.

As the Wise Man in the movie Charlie's War would say, "We shall see". :)

P.S. Nearly impossible to have the creature comforts you want while retainin offroad capability. :)

I had an '86 Bronco II for many years. Despite my best efforts, and those of the original owner, that truck proved hard to kill. The paint peeled off long before the engine finally gave up the ghost.

Honestly, I really like the look of the concept designs I've seen so far. I've been considering trading my Kia Soul for a Sportage, since my commute got considerably closer. A Rondo would be even better if I could get one in the US. However, I would seriously consider the Bronco again.

I had an '86 Bronco II as well. It was mostly junk. Well, the engine was. When I got it with 120k miles, we put in a used engine with 86k because the original was shot. At 140k we put in a reman engine because the second engine had a cracked block. At 145k, we had the reman replaced under warranty because it had a cracked block (the same place it had been repaired for the remain). I traded it off with just over 150k and it was leaking coolant again. Other than that and the crappy auto-lock front hubs, it was a good vehicle though. It got me through college!

I think there will be a bare bones version (hose out interior) and a well optioned version. I don't expect a solid front axle though.

Mine had around 120k on it when I got it, too. Never had any major engine/drive train problems with it until it started leaking coolant into the oil and buggered up the bearings. That was at 235k. Even with that, a dealer gave me $1500 in trade towards another car I bought ... saying he'd get at least that much from the 4WD.

The gain with IFS is the creature comfort feeling. The loss is significant offroad loss.

That's what the buyers of the last versions that wanted to wheel them disliked. Jeep gained a lot of those owners.

Myself,I like how the car companies are bringing back the retro cars/trucks the last 10 years or so.The mustang, dodge challenger, camaro, toyota land cruiser, bronco,to name few.

I do too.

Test drove the Land Cruiser. Didn't like it at all. Really surprised me. Had high expectations.

I think the Challenger wins the retro car war. The Hellcat version has the dubious honor of being the most frequently wrecked new car model. One wrecked becore the driver got off the dealer lot. :)

From what I've read the powertrain completely overwhelms the chassis.

But then, Ford did that 45 years ago when they stuffed a big block in a Mustang. :)
