Well...

EA recommended this beast for my tractor just a month ago.

I wish I had a lighter one... there is no way that I could even scratch the paint on this thing. Had I the option with what I know now... I'd go with a 73" lighter grapple for this tractor. HP isn't the best factor in determining which is appropriate, IMO.

That is a 100HP tractor, so actually I probably did recommend the 66" or 73" CA Xtreme Grapple.

Yes, those CA Xtreme Grapples are HEAVY!!
They're good for 80-100+ AG tractors and large skid steers, but not so much for tractors under 75-80HP.

This is the reason we started making our Wicked Utility Grapples, which are in the 600 pound range VS the CA grapple being 900-1,000+ pounds!
They're very manageable, actually quite ideal, even for these new high HP compact tractors like our L6060 Kubota, the NX Series Kioti, 4066R JD tractor, etc.

A 600lb grapple offers little advantage for even a big CUT like the Kubota L6060 or NX series from Kioti. Those tractors can certainly lift the grapple and have a good amount of net lift capacity but what is the advantage over a much less expensive and lighter 400lb range grapple with an extra 200lbs of lift capacity? CUTs are not skid steers.

5100E's loader is rated for only 400 lbs more than the 45hp Kioti at the pins/full height.

This is a 78" Construction Attachments Extreme Duty Grapple... on a 5100e.

My Danuser Intimidator pulled a old woven/barbed wire fence line with encumbering Honeysuckle and crappy 2-4" sapplings. Put it in piles... then I returned returned with my Grapple.

First bite was small and I thought... "This is going to take forever!" took it about 1/4mile to my burn pile location.
Second bite... well... it wasn't so small. The wire and criss-crossed trees, roots, brush created a connection which kept me from removing a 'bite'. It actually just took the whole rest of the pile. So, I geared down and pulled the whole thing.

This thing is big and heavy however... I have found I really need a ballast box. Even with over 900lbs of beet juice in each back tire.

Loading your rears is really for traction. It's kind of a "freebie" because it adds no weight to the frame of the tractor, it's just sitting on the ground. But for loader work, besides the increased traction the beet juice does not offer any reduction of loading on the much smaller front axle. To do this, you need weight behind the rear tires. Then the rear tires are the fulcrum, with the loader on one end of the lever and the attachment/ballast box/etc. on the back.

Usually you can get by with a heavy attachment instead of a ballast box. And often times its convenient to have on anyway. If I'm doing dirt work I will throw the 8' Harley on the back as it always comes in handy. If I was grappling brush/etc. and doing cleanup i'd probably have the rotary cutter on the back.

I looked up his tractor when he ordered the grapple, just not when i posted on here earlier.

Bottom line is, he has a 100hp, 10,000+ tractor when ballasted, so the CA Grapple is the safest match for his tractor.
He can unleash all of the tractor's power, even abuse it here and there, and not have to worry about damaging anything.

Its fine. I just would do things differently now. I'd tear my tractor apart before I'd ever be able to budge this grapple.

I do wish you guys sold empty Ballast boxes however. I'd buy one in a heart beat. I know I can build one, but I don't have access to a shop at this point. And after I've built my shop, I won't need the box. Just make a couple sizes, INSURE they are Quickhitch compatible (cat 2) and I'll fill it with cement upon arrival. The JD boxes seem small, even with the overpriced 'bolt on extensions'.

I agree, but I don't have any implement heavy enough to make a difference at this moment. I don't know that I'd like to mess with a rotary cutter hanging off the back. Alot of this work is up/down hills and I'd be dragging all day long. I DO like the thought of being able to use it however. I wish I had a flail mower... that might work and not hang so far out.

IT, I bought the 73" single lid for my LS XR4046HC solely for the wider 42.5" jaw opening. I use it almost exclusively for moving brush piles and tree limbs. I'm ok with a 600 lb. grapple because my loads are no where near the lift capacity of my FEL.

I have an 84" HD dual lid grapple on my NH TL100 A tractor for heavy loads. FEL capacity is over 5500 lbs.

The only empty box we have for ballast is our High HP Grading Box Blades. Possibly the heaviest 3pt box blade on the market.

It will still be possible to raise the back tires if you want to, even with a 2,000+ pound box blade on the rear!
