Tool box or the lack of one..

To tool or not to tool ... That is the question.. Wow I had a mid 80's Yanmar that I traded in on a used LS R3039 recently and I could not believe that it really doesn't have a tool box ... I always carried a hammer a good pair of pliers a can of WD-40 and a few spare snap pins for the implements in little Red! a pair of fencing pliers , gloves ect. Now I have to try to figure out what I can do about this little problem! Any Ideas ?

we've got another thread going on our XG3035 models. the OP over there did a really nice job adding his, and I copied that today on mine. Painted it with the Rustoleum Safety blue paint. here's mine...

my FEL joystick isn't mounted to the fender like some are though, so that's not an option for me anyway.

Gonna have to look into something. The 125 comes with something they call a toolbox, but we may disagree on that.

Ok So I have looked around and saw how all of you people have solved the lack of a tool box problem and I decided to make me a tray to mount to my right side step mounting bolts. I am going to attach mine with 3- M8 flat head socket head screws. I got the logo off of the internet and used my vinyl cutter to make the decal to show thru the bracket. I used self adhesive rubber strips to pad the tray to mount the 50 cal. ammo box in. see the pics.

Nice. I was able to just make a plate to go where the tiny plastic one mounted using the ROPS fasteners on my LS. I like yours much better - being able to remove the ammo can is nice.

Where in W-S are you? I'm in W-S too and Welcome, NC.

I have the one on the floorboard that I mentioned in another thread. Then I picked up a plastic ammo type can at RK for $6 that I was able to mount to the shelf for the toybox LS provided. I keep pins and latches in that one and tools in the one on the floorboard.

Nice job on the bracket. I mounted mine in the same spot but used “L” brackets to hold the ammo can.

So I saw this thread, and the other one, and was thinking 'neat, I'm doing this'. And then realized that while I will be getting one of those metal carports to park under, I'm still in LA and it rains. A lot. Means mud & water splash even when it's 'dry' (just ask my dog - she comes home muddy in a f'ing drought).

So the Cabella's ammo can is water proof, so that's great! But if I put a right side step toolbox too (and I love that idea) how much do I need to worry about water proofing that?

The one I've been keeping on the floorboard is one of these from Home Depot that seems to be waterproof, or at least rain proof: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-1...-with-Metal-Latches-in-Black-235574/302920706

They have a few other sizes too.

Thanks. I tend to shop at Lowes b/c they are better cust service in my area and never give me any issues using a vet's discount. MyLowes makes it easy.

I used a new 50 cal. ammo box from harbor freight and they seal out all water completely. I own a commercial machine shop so making the bracket was easy. I just used a tape measure to figure out the hole spread that is 100 mm apart or 3.937 inches. I used a few pieces of 2"x2"x1/8" angle and some 1/8" x2" hot roll flat bar. I tig welded them together with bronze rod and tried not to build up a lot of bead. I also used 2 short pieces of 1/8"x1" angle at the front to allow the box to open without removing it. I welded the box frame to a piece of 1/4" x 1-1/2" flat bar that had the 3 countersunk holes in it .I tried to no avail to find the safty blue rustolium paint but Lowes doesn't carry it anymore. I had to go with sail blue enamel. this stuff dries super slow so don't be in a big hurry. I just have to use a couple of zip ties to keep the hoses of the FEL out of the way of the box opening. Wa-LAA toolbox solved... LOL One word of caution ... If you build this same style give yourself a good 1/4" of space side to side and front to back for the ammo can. I only left about 1/8" and she was tight. I had to tweak it a little to make it right.
