Regarding exemptions for Ag/Timber/Wildlife, anyone around North Houston on out to Madisonville or beyond can look up Lonestar Forestry. They can put together a Wildlife Exemption or Timber and Ag plans to exempt your land. Wayne is a great guy and knows his stuff. He put together our Forestry plan when picking up our tract a few years ago. Timber and Wildlife exemptions are relatively low maintenance... Lone Star Forestry, LLC

There is also a bigger commercial shop out of central Texas that has a pretty wide footprint. They will put together plans and manage your property for wildlife as well to keep the exemptions intact. A little bit more Cadillac, but could be the right thing for a hobby rancher or someone not out on property too often. Plateau Land & Wildlife Management ™ – Less Work, More Enjoyment

I’m in Madisonville. Seems to me when I use Amdro they just increase. Wish I could find Diazinon. That stuff worked. Of course if something works then the government will find a reason to get rid of it. Bout ready to walk around the yard pouring gas on the fireants.

I have a Private Applicators license and can buy Diazinon. It is a restricted insecticide. It’s also just a contact insecticide. You’ll get much farther with a “bait” like Amdro and others. Read the TAMU info I posted. Lots of good info there Robby.

If your “neighbors” do nothing .... success is doubtful.

I was under the assumption it was taken off the market. I remember late eighties early nineties using it and it worked great.

I grew up mixing chemicals for my step dad who used to be a crop duster. Never worried about chemicals. Probably to a fault. To this day I’ll walk around the yard with any bait and just reach in the bag and grab some and scatter it. Do make sure I go wash my hands as soon as I’m through. I remember handling Paraquat all the time. Think it got outlawed.

Robby;

It was taken off market for “consumers” long ago but, still available.

Take the training and get your Private Applicators Certificate. You’ll learn a lot about pesticides, herbicides, etc.

Talk to your County Texas Agri-Life agent. They are a great resource!

Paraquat is a restricted herbicide. I won’t touch it.

I used to be impressed with the effectiveness of Amdro, but last year I had the "mound every 10 feet" in my yard. I sprinkled amdro on maybe 80 mounds. more than the directions said. I used to get a 90% kill rate, but last year maybe 40-50% at best.

I know Amdro has a short shelf life once opened, so you have to be aware of that.

Kyle;

Amdro is a “bait” not a contact pesticide. It best used by broadcasting in strips, 150-200 ft. spacing, when the fire ants are foraging. Look at the TAMU info I linked to.

Application is 1.5 lbs. / acre. This is about minimum setting on your broadcast spreader.

Apply to alternate strips semi-annually.

Get your neighbors applying also or you’re just baiting their FA’s too.

The other one we used a lot was methyl parathion.
