Monarch is a fine machine
The Rivett 1020 was the answer to the EE and was equal in quality
I chose the Rivett as I didn’t want to deal with the Monarch drive system or retrofit

Ya, really wanted a 10-15k lb “mini” but for about 1/2 the price of a 3k hr mini, it was hard to pass up

I ran an old Monarch in junior college, not sure what model but it was a sweet old lathe with variable speed head I think. If I remember right it had some sort of trick cross slide stop on it that I've never seen on another lathe.
I've run a Hardinge Super Precision since it was new in 1985, also a nice machine.
