need help on buying decision

Ok, I posted this on another "less read" section. Sorry, here it goes again!!!
OK all you CUB fans, heres the scoop. I am doing a tree cutting job at a old house in Nashville. In one of the deteriated and collapsing barns sits a Cub lo-boy 154 with old R1 dry rotted tires, a woods underbelly mower (5' I believe) has not been run in years. No 3 point hitch. I would like to buy the old non-running tractor from the owner. It used to belong to his dad about 30 years ago. He said he might sell it at auction this fall. I believe I might be able to snap it up for about $500.00. Is it a good deal, even if the motor is froze? What would be a good price for it?

You could probably part it out and get your $500 back.

Price seems ok especially with the Woods belly mower. If you get it, highly recommend "How To Restore Your Farm Tractor" by Robert Pripps.

5 bills sounds good to me. The old cub's are kinda cool, and neat to use. Now you know you are not going to do any heavy duty work with it, right?Good for mowing, and simple things, but you are not going to run a bunch of 3PH stuff, and loader work. I think they only had like 7-8hp.

Yah,
I know the hp is not up there. I used to work at a IH dealership in the early 80's. I have worked on some 154 lowboys. They are a neat little tractor. As you said, good for mowing and pulling a trailer around, that is about it. But there is something cool about that little 4 cylinder engine. Kinda nastalgic.
