Nah the F-superduty existed before the current superduty light trucks started in 1999. The F-super is basically a F-450.

I think I have seen our county with trucks int he 1.5+ ton range that kind of had a super cab like that... front then 2 back seats for workers. usually with a small 10cf dump bed behind it.. or a tool body with propane heaterbox for asphalt patching..

why do you have to go thru scales. are you running commercial plates.. or is it airbrake?

No airbrakes, no commercial plates. But it's not a pickup, it's a medium duty truck and it has "15" weight stickers pasted on the doors that put it in the 15000 lb weight class.

That Isuzu is lighter than I expected, with better mileage than I thought it would get for a gasser. I'll bet it would be a real beast with a diesel.

As for the engine, at our altitude I tend to go by the old axiom, "There's no replacement for displacement."

Ford messed around with this idea recently. They called it the "Tough Box" but I don't think it ever went into production:

Yep, there are a lot of NPRs around with the Isuzu diesel that get better fuel mileage than that 6.0L Chevy engine. They show up on eBay all the time. Most of them, however, are box trucks and I needed a flatbed which are a rarer breed.

The wheelbase on my NPR is not much different than the wheelbase on my 2001 F150 and with the tilt cab arrangement, the overall lengths of the NPR and the F150 are not that different. That's one reason I went for the NPR--relatively compact and maneuverable.

Just out of curiosity, what is the difference in registration fees between your current NPR and the F-150? I don't know how your state establishes registration fees, by weight, or value of the vehicle when new?

Found this baby last Dec on eBay--2004, 49,500 miles, Chevy 6.0L (360 ci) V-8, auto, air, power windows, 12,000 lb GVWR--$11K. The overall length is about the same as my 2002 F150 short cab, long bed PU.

Use it to haul my parade tractors and for runs to the feed and seed store. Checked the weight on the truck scales with 3/4 tank of gas, road tool kit and me--7100 lb. None of my parade tractors weigh over 3500 lb so no problem with overload. Yes, I have to go through the scales when carrying a load, but I only haul tractors on weekends 5-6 times a year. And there are no scales between my place and the nearest towns (Red Bluff and Chico).

I looked long and hard for a 3/4 or 1T PU gas and diesel and couldn't beat this deal for my uses. Besides, I really like the look of the NPR and have always wanted to own a cab over vehicle.

How much more is your insurance? I'd like to have something like that myself.

With a full load of passengers and luggage, and near 7000 pounds, my GMC would get just over 16.4 mpg on the freeway, as long as you stayed under 64 mph.
