Flail Mower Let's talk flail mowers

Ok, Island Tractor, Leonz, and Gmanbart... I've been following this conversation about gradient pressures ect since it started. Now I'm just trying to make sense of all this. Nobody is mowing turkey feathers anyway right?
So I'm thinking... what you guys are trying to determine here is " do our flail mowers suck" is this correct?

WEEEELLLLLL,

As Bucky Cat from the cartoon "Get Fuzzy" would say "that Hoovers".

I am going to order my Dwyer Vacuum Gauge this week to solve this issue.

My Lawn Genie' chute/flue/duct to the collection basket is approximately 8 inches tall by 48 inches wide by 48 inches long before it exits into the collection basket so I know it is moving huge amounts of air through it when collecting crass clippings while mowing or picking up fresh clippings after they have dried somewhat.

We may need to have a second version of the T shirt for Gman: "My flail is suckless"

Forestry flail mowers "suck less" too as they have a cast flail head that is one piece with either a solid cast rotor with rings with serated cutting edges or replacable cutting bits.

"Forestry" flail mowers are so different from "grass and brush" flail mowers as to be a separate species altogether. The forestry "flails" basically beat large vegetal things to pieces rather than slice or cut them. Kind of like comparing a bush hog to a reel mower.

I think mine would say "My flail sucks less than yours"....

I'm considering color coding, and numbering grass cuttings, then carefully placing them on a numbered grid square, noting all of the cuttings with their numbered coordinates, then going over the whole thing with a flail. Of course, we'll need hi-speed video of everything, so I'll see if I can borrow a GoPro from work, and find a way to mount it under the Sicma. Adding pressure gauges to that would just be showing off...

Noticed the state road guys were cutting near the house today and seen where they "mowed" a log (Had an Alamo flail on the tractor with the Y blade knives)
Thought it was interesting to see how it "cut" the log (about an 8" log so not really brush in most peoples eyes) and thought others maybe interested in...

I tried my flail for the first time today... I greased it up and got it to rotate with little resistance. So I tried to cut with it and it wouldn't cut anything. The roller did a great job of laying things down. Here is a video of it hooked up and running. I need to get a longer pto shaft as you can see there isn't great contact between the shafts. I'll post some pics of the grass I tried cut. The blades are in bad shape, but I would have thought from shear force they would have cut something
