I have been laughed at for this but do not miss checking the air intake system. A restriction there will also overheat it. It would be next of such in there that moves at certain air flow but could just be the trash from mowing. kt

That was the first think I checked. Put in new air filters and blew out the radiator.

Are you sure you don't have an air pocket in the cooling system or a sludged up radiator?

Another update...
Today I bought a mechanical temp gauge at the parts store. I installed it and rant the tractor for about 45 minutes at 15-2000 rpm. It got to 180 and stayed there. (IR gun readings confirmed this as well) This confirms my suspicion that the original gauge or wiring is faulty and the the tractor is not getting hot. I'm going to run it with the mechanical gauge for a few days and see how it goes.

I did take the cluster apart and blow all the dust out with a can of computer duster. Once I get my food plots done, I will hook up the old temps sensor and see if the gauge might be working again before buying a new cluster.

Heck jb, i'd leave the mechanical unit on, who knows whether the new cluster wouldn't do the same thing at a great expense compared to the mechanical one.

Before I bought a new cluster would try new wire from sending unit to the cluster. Probably the cluster but..

I agree. When I get my food plots done and get my ohm meter figured, I am going to do some further testing. The cluster is $535.
