I learned something about women today

I've always had a male barber... I dunno but it just seems like the way things ought to be.

I go see Glenn at "Glenn's Barber Shop" no less. Building is old; Looks old, smells old. A real 1950's ?? Dr. Pepper clock marks the time. Has some rotating sparklys in it that do light dances on the face.

Glenn knew my granddad, knows my dad... After the weather, talk is old cars, farmin', local stuff... Even does a hot shave 'round the ears and so on... Used to be $7 till the place down the street raised their price and Glenn figures he's just as good as them and I do too. So it's $10 now and if I'm having a good day it's a couple more. If'n I had it, I'd pay it 10 times over.

Sorry for the ramble...

If you can't go into Mike's barbershop and get your hair cut by Mike (or his son) then it's just not worth going to the place. My second criteria is that they have the most recent copy of Playboy somewhere to read. In my case, you have to know where the secret grown up magazine rack is.

Bob, did the gal that cut your hair have a bunch of extra hardware on her face? I think those nose rings (and lip rings) are totally cool, especially with the multi colored hair that refuses to lay next to the scalp. I totally enjoy having this kind of (boy or girl) wait on me at the eatin' joints. I would die to have one cut my hair-way cool Dude!!!

I've been going to the same barbershop for 8 years now, a small shop three miles away with one chair. Owned by a young fellow who originally cut hair in the Navy...let me tell you he is the fastest barber I have ever met, I get a haircut and beard trim in 20 minutes. Only $11 and I include a tip in that figure.

No waiting, no chitchat, just in and out the door...and in another couple of years I will qualify for his senior citizen discount, hope he is still in business then.

45 minutes and $23? Heck, me and my 2 sons get our hair cut every 4 weeks, in and out in less than 45 minutes and the bill is $30 including a $5 tip.

This same woman cuts my wife's hair, and the price and seat time triples....

Bob, I won't comment on your observations having been delayed so long into your adult life, because most of us learned these lessons by the time we were 18. Guess that you were too busy with other things.... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I take my neighbor for his haircuts since he doesn't have a car any longer. He will go into town and which ever barber doesn't have a waiting line, he will go to him. There were 4 barbers in town at the time this happened last. The barber he chose on that day was 85 years old by his own admissions. He cut his hair with old, dull scissors, and was talking about cars of the 1930's & 1940's saying that then you could tell the different brands, and today how they all look alike to him. The total time in the chair was less than 15 minutes, because the barber was fast and the customer didn't have much hair. When he was done, he said that will be $2.25!! My neighbor handed him a $5 bill and said "keep the change". The barber handed him back $2.50 and said that a quarter was all the tip he needed. My assumption was that he cut hair because he had nothing else to do with his time. I recently read that he died and that he had been cutting hair in that shop since 1947.
Gave his last haircut on a Tuesday and died in his sleep that night. He truly loved his job and the last time we were there, we commented that it would have been great to have a video recorder going. It was like entering a time machine and going back to the "good old days" when times were a lot slower. I never had him cut my hair, but I always enjoyed watching him cut the neighbors hair.

Bob my dear......I am the lovely Mrs. LarryCB, who by chance just happens to be a hairstylist. While your post was good for a moment of entertainment, you just need to realize that women need that 45 minute down time to recover from listening to you guys yammer on about such silly things as tractors, horsepower and the like.
Cuddly hugs,
The lovely Mrs. LarryCB /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I only left the 'puter to fill the coffee cup...gotta change the password.

Now everyone knows where I get my haircut /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif. It's like walking into a room full of sisters who know EVERYTHING you did or didn't do.

Those are very expensive 45 minutes as compared to a mans 15 minutes in the chair. I have noticed that women hair stylists and barbers like to hear the clicking of the scissors even when it isn't cutting hair. Do they charge by the clicking stroke??? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
