I've got one of those 12 volt guns that Canadian Tire was selling for $159.oo two years ago. It has been great. It came with two batteries and one is on the gun and the other in the charger. I don't have any problems with air locks and it not doing the grease thing. (touch wood)
I can't use a manual gun. I was only born with two arms and hands and for the most part you need three to use a lever gun. The pistol type I can't use due to arthritis.

The lever gun is my favorite. The reason is the LockNLube coupler.

It locks on the zerk, leaving two hands to operate the lever.

I did a thread on this grease gun when I bought it last year and it has turned out to be a real winner. Levers don't work for me because it seems I'm always one hand short. I use a rubber hose rather than a metal tube so it flops around. It hasn't been mentioned but I wonder to what degree grease causes the problem?

It's not something I have thought about but several years back I do recall having some grease airlock issues. Since then I have switched to Deere grease and can't recall having a problem since then.

Let me add I store mine straight up by hanging the lever over the edge of the barrel. Maybe that helps the airlock syndrome?

I haven't owned a lever gun in the last 20 years or more. They are so ineffective. The locknlube helps but still very ineffective. But to each his own.

What do you mean by ineffective?

Grease comes out when the lever moves, to me that is effective.

It is rated at 10,000 psi. If there is a stubborn zerk, I lock the hose on, hold the gun with the hose pointed down, put the gun against my chest, put both hands on the extended lever and pull as hard as I can. So far the grease always goes in.

My 18v Lincoln is rated at 7,500 psi, for comparison.

Small point and dumb question here but I never understood what the button on top of the grease gun is for and how it is used. I know it's to let the air out, or at least I think it is but how are you supposed to do it effectively? Sorry I don't know but have never had much of an airlock issue.

I always thought it was neophyte me that didn't know how to properly use a grease gun without air and all and not getting any grease out of one I know I just put a new tube in.

Of course, I still don't know the secret. I just stand there and pump, if grease comes out I get to lubing what needs it.
If it doesn't come out, I cuss some, twist and look and get greasy and cuss some more.

So, is cussin' the dad-blamed thing the secret?

I must be doing something wrong. I have three grease guns and never have had a problem with any of them. I have a 40 year old Lincoln, a 10 year old John Deere, and a 10 year old Lubriplate trailer (small) grease gun. I just put grease cartridges in them, release the plunger and push it down to make sure it's seated and they work until the cartridge has about 2-3 tablespoons of grease left in it. Can't believe using a grease gun could be that difficult...

Several things on my mind. First I HATE that black grease. It's hard to get it off your hands. Is it any better though? There are so many kinds of grease, I even bought this super expensive Food Grade grease that I used for a project up at the pond. If I guess that greasing with almost any grease is a million times better then no grease, would I be right?

I saw a nice grease nozzle at an auto parts store (not expensive) and replaced the one on my cheap electric gun I bought at TSC. It just seemed to hold on the zerks nicely. A neighbour of mine came over with his MF 265, maybe with a leon loader. He was having trouble greasing the loader. I believe it's the top of the bucket cylinders but the zerks are in a cage of sorts with just enough of a round hole to get the grease nozzle into. Greasing was easy, getting the **** thing off was nearly impossible! That nozzle, or maybe any that lock on, seem to require moving the nozzle off to an angle to get them off, but in this case you couldn't. I undid the nozzle to relieve pressure, but this was of no help. Eventually I just rigged up a pry bar and pulled like crazy on the hose, being left with little other options and it came off. Anyone have any tips on this?

Loosen the jaws of the nozzle. Perhaps putting it on a little loose and applying pressure to keep it tight.

If the slightly larger lockNlube nozzle will fit in the holes and they are not too deep, then the lockNLube is what you want.. No pulling, no breaking zerks NO curse words.

Ineffective as in comparison to a pistol gun or powered gun. If you are happy using it, I am happy for you. To me, it's ineffective.

Yep. Sometimes with use they'll get out of adjustment but a quick turn with your fingers and everything is good again.

I bought one of the lock n lube ends. I pumped a couple tubes of grease thru it and took it off. Too bulky. Too slow. A properly adjusted normal end works better for me. I am a grease freak and use a LOT of grease in a year.

I am messier than I like to admit. But I'm also a bit OCD about it. I wipe my gun off after every use. I try to not handle it with greasy hands. For example, I'm left handed. I always run the gun with my right hand and run the hose, zerk coupler with my left. Left hand gets greasy, right hand stays clean. In a perfect World at least.

I don't work wood so don't have your worries. Maybe commit one battery to the grease gun?? If the Milwaukee is anything like the DeWalt it will pump a LOT of grease on one battery charge. I'm guessing 10 tubes or so.

I have a bunch of Dewalt Cordless tools, but they are all NiCad. I wanted to try Milwaukee brand tools and also switch to Lithium batteries. To keep the cost down, I bough a refurbished gun through CPO outlets. I have purchased a couple other tools from them, and been very pleased.Paid about $125 and liked it so much, a week later I bought an impact driver to go with it. If you do much greasing, and you know you should, battery operated is so much easier and cleaner. One hand still has to get greasy from the Zerk, but the pump hand stays clean. Is applies good pressure, and is easy to load and doesn't seem to get airlockks like the hand pump did. Plus no hand cramping . I'm wishing I had got this thing 10 years ago.

For years I struggled with cheap grease guns with the very same problems. Solution? Go to NAPA auto parts and get the best grease gun they carry. I have had mine now for over 10 years and it still operates great. They are not cheap but worth every dime.
