Popgadget, hope the skies were gentle.

Didn’t go anywhere today. This was yesterday in SC. Had a headwind in both directions :(.

Good (Saturday) morning. Overnight Low of 4.7C and it's presently 17.1C, clear, sunny with a bit of an occasional breeze. A late, yesterday, evening burst of heavy rain put 4.7mm into the gauge.

I gave the house a good vacuuming and then gave myself a haircut, beard trim and, finally, got those pesky ear hairs 'mowed'. Naturally, now that I've 'cleaned up my act', the temperature will turn cold.

Well, it's the first of April so I've gone around and advanced all of my calendars. Later on I'll have to go around and adjust (fall back) all of my clocks as it's our turn to do so.

That's about it, take care all.

this morning's sunset over the ocean was beautiful.
Things must have changed since I have been back East.....

Doesn't the sun SET in the west? ...and in the evening?----- Where have I been?

....Or, Drew, you have been driving in that traffic too long!
;):ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
Couldn't resist.....

And typically I was thinking that the sunset usually occurs in the evening ... but hey my schedule and personal clock is all messed up ... so I wouldn't discount anything as a possibility ...

Good evening all. 67ºF for the start, overcast breezy. Strong and gusty wind today, sky clear up late morning, and high temp was 82ºF. Cold front has come through(dry), low for day forecast to be 57ºF at midnight. Slow start to morning, bike ride early to avoid worst of the wind, wind penalty over 1 mile. After lunch started on firewood piles and downed limbs. Hauled 2 pickup loads to cleanup dumpsters available only this weekend. Then took nap but did not sleep as well. probably because of gusty winds.

53F and cloudy @ 22:00, heading up to 54F for the overnight low ...

Hearing rumbles of thunder currently, we are marginal risk of severe thunderstorms overnight.

Fairly productive day yesterday ... but did not get any feeders filled ... :(

Was up in the shop all night, went to bed around noon today.

Made the run up to Menards in the Falls and picked up electrical supplies yesterday. They were supposedly out of one item (4-prong 20A twist-lock receptacle)

I went back in up front after getting loaded and found it one shelf down a little ways over from where it was supposed to be, in the wrong box. So no trip back to pick up something they "were out of" ... (y)

However, I did order the incorrect cover plate for that receptacle for the box. Will return the incorrect one to Menards in Massillon for the correct one tomorrow when I'm down that way.

Guy finally got back to me on the metal enclosures - not exactly pristine, but looks like he has something that is serviceable and could work ... and the price is right:

Supposed to meet up with him tomorrow.

Trimmed out cabinet to something approaching a square hole:

IMG_2395 copy.jpg

Still searching for the "right" sheetmetal to cover it, have stuff that is too thin (16 gauge) or too thick (10 gauge) ... anything that I have that is close to the right thickness isn't big enough to cover the hole.

Unfortunate that it isn't exactly centered on the seam between the cabinet halves as it offends my sense of symmetry ... but I don't think I'm going to trim it out further.

One last application of silicone remover applied to the area on the base where they had the piece of wood glued on and that stripped. That doesn't mean I won't find more it elsewhere, where I haven't looked closely.

Cleaned up the worm gears and all the small parts related to them and the shafts they ride on, including the roll pins, stop collars, brass bullets that form part of the locking mechanism, and the locking screws.

Chased the threads on the locking screws with a die to clean off the crud and did the same with a tap for the holes in the shafts they screw into.

Drove out the tapered pin that retains the shaft that the motor bracket rides and pivots on in the yoke.

Cleaned tapered pin, shaft and motor mount up, including removing all the contact cement that was on the mount and washed it off in the parts washer.

That leaves the front and rear trunnions and the yoke that connects them together as far as cleaning goes. Those are bolted and roll-pinned together and I really don't see any need to disassemble them. Just give them a bath, clean out the bores, where the shaft for the motor goes and call it good.

A couple of the cleaned up castings:

Also got the laminate and t-strip edging removed from the Biesemeyer fence, and got 99% of the contact cement stripped off the underlying Baltic Birch plywood (pic just before I had completed contact cement removal):

Plan is face that board with a UHMW sheet. Would prefer to glue it on ... probably with contact cement but sure how well it will adhere. More research needed.

The other aspect of that, is whether I'll be able to zero-out the position indicator on the fence adding that much thickness. Will probably wait to do anything on it until I have the saw all back together.

Did a little better on temperature management last night, kept it down to 80F for the high.

Did remember to move some wood inside before I called it quits so I should be able to get a fire doing fairly easily tonight.

Hope everyone had a great Friday ... (y)

Nasty tornadoes in Midwest. One did lot of damage in AR town where we always stopped to get BBQ when taking the boys for college.

I’ll probably pass drew on I81 tomorrow. His camping spot tomorrow is just north of our lot, which I hope to stop at tomorrow. Son heads back to TN, we are going half way. Going to be windy they say.

The only event on the northbound North Bay trip was a clown that passed me when I had the cruise set at 72 mph. (Roads were dry.) About 5 miles farther up the road I was right on his a$$ so I went out to go around him. He sped up, kept me in the passing lane, but not for long. The V6 3.7 L VVT in the Dodge is pretty peppy, by the time I got off the throttle I was doing 100. Left the clown in my dust.
Got everything done AND my usual full rack of ribs with sweet potato fries and coleslaw. Coming back out of town there were two cops and a meat wagon just south of the Hwy 17 overpass, a pickup decided that the way south was to go up a pile of rocks that hold up the North bound side of the highway. No injuries, the meat wagon left empty. The roads by that time were wet with slushy sections. Didn't stop me from doing 72 most of the way back. No cruise control coming back. I wont use it on wet or snow covered roads.
Emailed my manager this morning and told him about the freezing rain forecasted for this weekend and my thoughts about going down there in it. He replied to do the best I can to get there. Always.
Sunday is looking sunny and 34, Monday in the 40s. I will plow tomorrow about 2 P.M., that will take me until 5 then supper and bed. Early to bed, early to rise makes Billy healthy, wealthy and a prude. :LOL:I will most likely be on the road by about 3 A.M. Sunday morning and in Mississauga (where I get my medical) by 8 A.M.
Medical will take about an hour and then back up to Markham to meet with an old friend, jump into my motel room (without the friend) and off to the first of the two meetings Monday.
I had tried out the ELD (electronic logging device) last year and it put me into violation when I wasn't so I had shut it off and went back to paper. This year I MUST use it (became law on Jan. 1, 2023) so I need to get trained on it.
The only time we can use paper logs (and we must prove the past 14 days) is when the ELD breaks down. I can accommodate that. Just chuck it out the window then drag my trailers over it. Oops it fell.
This might be my last year of driving big truck, I haven't made up my mind yet. I have been threatening that since I turned 65, but I like it too much. I will definitely be done when I turn 80. DoT/MTO or whatever you want to call those useless butt holes insist on a medical AND a road test in the class of license/vehicle you are applying for (Class A) and that is EVERY year. Screw that.
