Costco trip was a bit different..
We almost always stop in Waimea McDonalds for coffee, maybe a sausage biscuit or egg mcmuffin. Today, the dining area was closed, drive-in open, could order for takeout. We enjoyed our coffee in the car.
Arrived at Costco about 9:15. Thought we may have beat the crowd - not. They did open the doors about 9:45 and only took us 40 minutes to snake our way in so actually in before the official 10am opening. Passed a sign alerting us, no TP, paper towels, sanitizer, wipes, clorox, ice cream, or puppy pads. People in line respectful of distance, some light hearted banter, a few tourists in the mix. Well behaved group.
As we try to get there at opening usually and be in few dozen to enter, this was a bit different a strange feeling of emptiness even though many had entered already. Aisles never got crowded. Was surprised at the items with signs with Limit 1 - dog and cat food, water, rotisserie chicken, etc. i didn’t see the sign on butter and got caught at register. As we were also shopping for our cottage tenant, wife and I had 2 carts and checked out separately. I will say the Costco staff was wonderful, in good spirits, helpful, pleasant to talk with. One missing item was the 2 bottle white vinegar. Otherwise a very good selection of most stuff, meats, veggies, fruits, etc. Checkout lines moved well. All in all we were finished about our usual time.
Normally, we stop at a Chinese buffet for lunch in Waimea on way home. Figuring that wasn’t a possibility with the new restrictions we did stop across the street at the DQ in the shopping center food court. All tables and chairs had been removed. Food was available takeout only. All the vendors were open.
We enjoyed our Blizzards outside on a bench in the sunshine. Then headed home.
Will be interesting to see how this all shakes out over a prolonged period. We only go Costco a few times a year, usually geared to dog food. Have 4 40lb bags so good for awhile. Will have to be on lookout for paper goods locally. Freezer is full so no food panic expected.
Interesting times.
