Anyone know about 3D printing?
I have a small part to print, and the website that prints asks for two variable to be selected. It will be an exhaust adapter for a new coffee roaster...ABS plastic using FDM process. The website asks for:
- % Infill, from 20% to 100%, and
- Layer Height, from 100 um to 300 um.
Not sure what these mean, exactly.
Thanks, these are very helpful...this is the website where I was considering ordering the print job, too. I should have gone to their home page...they have a wealth of info. Problem, now that I know what Infill is, is I don't want any infill.
You can get by with less infill as you thicken the shell for many parts. Depends on your part. the layers are how thick each layer is, giving the part more resolution. I have found that these printers are good for prototyping, so you can hold something in your hand, but usually not great for anything that would have any force that you have to depend on. I made a flange adapter for a portable roll around A/C unit that I connected an aluminum dryer exhaust hose to. Then ran the heat out a gap in the window. We have many of these where I work. I had 3 under my domain, but a new guy has horded all but 1 into his domain. I have a MakerBot 2X replicator left, that has never been that good of a machine since the start. You can buy a good one, and build it yourself fairly cheap, or a really nice one (build it yourself for $750). Original Prusa i3 MK3 - Prusa3D - 3D Printers from Josef Průša
Maybe I spoke too soon. This morning, my wife told met there was a rabbit in our backyard. I walked out on the deck and it came right to the step, stopped, and listened to me a minute, then slowly went under the deck where she always went in and out. So apparently it was Miss Bunny instead of a stranger passing through.
Yea, Miss Bunny lives!
Bunny is back!
I found some young tomato plants in Caldwell Texas this morning. (about 37 miles away). We were going over there anyway after calling around to local Tractor Supplys for a particular type of baby chicks. They had them. Gold Sex Links. Who name's chicken breeds???
Waiting for some energy to go plant the Celebrity and Better Boy tomato plants. Did the tilling yesterday.
Drew, good luck on your planting day. Hope you have plenty of help to come out. That's a lot of taters.
Eric, glad that at least one of your chores isn't too hard. My friends are touring C. S. Lewis' home today.
Don, sounds like retirement literally means re-tired-again. Glad it isn't work for you. Interesting neighbors.
