the weather report just keeps getting worse. Now over seven inches of rain predicted over two days.
Apparently the system is going to stall over the coast for awhile.

Better get your turtles to high ground, Drew. The rest of the Atlantic coast, too, at least from Georgia to Virginia, but maybe even as far north as Massachusetts. Just be glad you're not in the Florida Panhandle...

Propane tank was filled yesterday, along with four 25 lb. picnic bottles. 220 gallons all together, not bad for about two years of use. The wood stove purchased from the same company has allowed me to stop using the propane fired central furnace. I'll have to wait for the bill to find out the per gallon price; I've heard that in some parts of the country propane is now below $2/gallon!

!

My propane guy came last week to fill our 1000 gallon tank but, it was only down 200 gallons. Bill was $1.70/gallon.

nice trip to go see the old IH tractor today. The guy had over a dozen old tractors on his farm, he buys them and renovates them, or as in the tractor I looked at, only paints them. What I call a fluff and puff. The only fluids he had changed was the motor oil. The trans dipstick was broken in half, no way to check fluid, and that is a combined hydraulic system. The brakes had problems, a known model issue. None of the gauges worked nor the hour meter. Needed three tires. Bush hog looked like it had fallen off a cliff. I drove it, lot of blowby, just a tired old girl that needs a lot of money to fix up. Not me...
Needs Nothing. Right.

Guy also had a newer MF but wanted too much money for it, plus I could hardly push the clutch down; seriously stiff. Not binding, just stiff. No way I could repetitively do that. Lot of older Fords in various degrees of non running, place was a mess. but nice drive and we stopped for lunch at a rural buffet restaurant and had a nice lunch together. too much salt in the chopped collards, but the pulled pork was excellent with that vinegary bite. Have to believe that seasoning something with vinegar is healthier for one that using sugar or corn syrup.

That five year old Massey at the dealers is looking mighty good. Where everything works... but I'd rather have a ten or twenty year old tractor to get the price down,
not a forty or fifty year old one.

Got my car out of the shop late today with new front air shocks and new front pads and rotors. No more pulsing while braking and my smooth ride returned.
Parking brake and light sensor fixed.
And cost more than my first new car. The guy is capable, honest and fair. Not his fault the silly shocks are 755 bucks apiece.
The price of wafting...it really did ride nicely on the way home.

Rain is already starting from the system before the hurricane/tropical storm. Currently 1.19 predicted for today. 6.62 predicted for Friday and .24 for Saturday.
That will create some problems. Good thing I don't have to go anywhere but it sure will leave a mess. That much water will float all kinds of road trash down my lane, and clog all the main culverts with debris.
I hope David's house is doing ok in Hawaii. Haven't heard from him.

Thanks, Rick.

The propane bill just showed up on the CC today: $2.33/gal. That's the lowest price since September of 2012 when it was $2.18/gal.

OMG Drew! Do they have electronically controlled valving or something? That's about what I paid last year for a state of the art motorcycle shock, custom built for the bike it went on, but that was very low production. The four shocks/struts we ordered for the van were $500 for the set, again custom sprung and valved for the application, but they probably make and sell a lot more of them.

But like you say, when it's for a Jag, BMW, Mercedes, Porche, Audi, or even one of the luxury Japanese cars, you pay a premium because you paid a premium for the car to begin with, and you shouldn't complain because you knew that when you went into it. And you're not.

Finished painting the door jams and edges of all four van doors, along with another test panel on the old tail gate. The difference this time was that the paint was preceded by a coat of of dark blue sealer, which was supposed to provide a more uniform base for the color coats, one that more closely matched the final color.
paintPrimedBlueHatch.jpg
I was a little concerned that it was such a dark blue, but it doesn't seem to have effected the final outcome, and the paint is free of the streaks it had the last time. I don't think that's all due to the blue sealer though, as I'd had more practice and I was using the new spray gun, and both helped, probably more than the sealer. But the result is more than good enough, and proof enough to me I can end up with a finished job that's good enough, too.

yes, computer controlled, first gen, likely similar to air suspension on Land Rovers but the car levels to each wheel, corrects
body lean, etc, Actually you can't feel it which is good. I had a choice of oem for over a grand or these, new
top quality aftermarket which is certainly what I went for. Known issue, budgeted for. Hopefully the back ones will last much longer.
Just wear items but not your normal Monroe Sensatracs or Bilsteins I have put on most of my vehicles.
My Ram has the same air bag suspension twelve years later.
I'm still in this car for relative peanuts.
And for a brief moment of time, that elusive sunset moment, everything works. :D

RNG, nice blue! you can see yourself in the shine

And think of how much easier it'll be to find that big RED Prius in a crowded parking lot! Congrats, Ed.

Thanks RNG, actually it is harder than finding the dark blue Subaru, I knew what every part looked like. This one will take a bit. Like the paint job, are you going on a TBN world tour when you get it done? Ed

Then I don't feel bad for you. It's possible to spend $4K for a pair of computer controlled motorcycle shocks. Even more scandalous, they're aftermarket, and the factory shocks they replace don't last most people a year. And BMW considers them a wear item, so they're not covered under warranty. If you decide to order the bike without the fancy computer controlled suspension, you can't buy the aftermarket ones and add them later because BMW doesn't include the software needed to use them, and the dealers won't install it unless the bike originally came with it. Talk about a racket.

I wish the pics captured the true color and "texture" of this paint. It's not metallic, it has a kind of milky look to it, and the color shifts through a range of blues as you or the van change positions. It's a pearl, but not a natural one, (the guy that started House of Kolor used to buy pearl seconds and grind them up for his paint). Hope it doesn't trigger any flashbacks

Good day today. Well kind of. Our neighbor that is a Doctor did some searching for us and found a doctor to give my wife a second opinion on her diagnoses. Happened so fast this morning that our heads are still spinning. Stopped the pine tree project. Got an appointment with one of the top doctors in Michigan for ALS. Came out of the appointment with a positive diagnoses of Lou Gehrig's Disease (ALS). It has not made any change in her for over 9 months. Since she started feeling something was wrong. This doctor is aggressive in treating ALS patients. Already have therapy planned and other procedures that should help keep the disease at bay.
Doctor is also recommending that we see a ALS specialist at Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, AZ. Where my wife is already a patient for a bone marrow disease. Our visit to them for that has made a very positive improvement in that condition.
It's not what we wanted to hear. But we have been aware that this is what she has for several months. Now to get to work and keep it progressing further.

Betty and Ron, there will be some extra prayers for y'all from Giddings tonight. I pray that the treatments help her have a long and rewarding life. In case y'all have never had the chance to meet Ron and Betty, well, Betty is a very beautiful woman, and Ron is downright handsome too. :)

actually I lowballed the filter price, found the slip, 127 dollars for inner and outer air filter.
Spun from fibers harvested in the outer rings of Saturn...

How do you spell OUCH in Saturnese?

Good morning all. Still in Montana and 45 degrees and clear. Headed back home to OK next week for a week or two for tractor time.

I was wondering and wanted to pick your brains. I'm thinking of getting another tractor(and so it begins) to go along with my Kubota.
I plan it sharing and pulling a 5 ft rotary cutter, 4 ft finish mower, 6 ft Flail, and a small trailer for fire wood. About the same size dimensionally and approx hp as my 3301.
It can't be a row crop trycycle since I live on sloped land. (I had an old Farmall H long ago) It'll need to not have a real high COG.

I've had an Ford N in the past and it was good but it seems like I read here there was a better one (Ford 800 maybe?) The Fergusons TO30s?
And I've heard good about MF (65,165s?) but never been around them.
Can you guys recommend good valued small tractors 2wd no loader but yes to 3pt just to putz around with so I know what to watch for? Some work needed is fine and ugly is great too.
Not the little Mitsubishis or Yanmars though. Maybe another Kubota older but all those seem to be high for resale around where I look.

First of all, tie a rope around some of that 50 degree air and tow it down here, or better yet, point those windmills' this way and turn 'em on high.

Many times, a cheap old tractor is just somebody else's problem looking for a new home to have problems. Not always, but often.

Remington 1100? I have 3 of them.

They are sensitive to getting dirty. Give it a thorough cleaning and you should be good to go.

Rick, you got one more than me, but I also have a tournament grade 870 trap model that has beautiful wood. I have some semi high dollar o-rings for my 1100s that I believe are made from Torlon? They are over 15 years old and still work like clockwork.

RNG, you make it shine better than Windex! Sooo much nicer than that other parts van's color. LOL One of my "scores" from work is a cryogenic cold head. You can make liquid nitrogen, or argon, or other stuff, but not easily. This one is "hopped up" and I was told it can actually solidify oxygen. Use liquid nitrogen to freeze those bearing races stuck in the steering stem.

Don, a phD chemist at work is from Poland. His mom is trying to get his dad in a chelation program over there to hopefully unclog his arteries. I told him you were a very studied up person and I would ask if you knew of this? Supposedly, the calcium (which is a metal, and considered by some to be a heavy metal) can be chelated away by offering it a better host in the blood stream if I'm understanding it correctly. Then your blood has to be filtered somewhat like dialysis to remove the chelated calcium. This takes something like up to 20-30 treatments.

All of y'all in the storm's way batten down the hatches.

Good Evening. 2145, rain, 74F with 94% humidity. Forecast low of 74F tonight with 100% chance of rain. So far we haven't seen any really bad weather. In fact, Sister and BIL are heading to Panama City Beach tonight. They had tickets to Beach jam, which has been cancelled, but they still had the room reserved for the weekend, so they headed on out. Most everything is to the east, so they should be fine. And traffic should be pretty light going their way:D

Ron, you and your wife are in my prayers.

You guys stay safe,

Larro

Larro, I guess your sister and her husband aren't concerned about the hurricane? Maybe a hurricane party in the works? Sounds like fun! As long their safe.

I tried out my new HF sliding miter saw today. Works great, and with a Admiral 60 tooth carbide blade, it leaves a nice finish. I've never had any HF power tools before, this looks pretty good, and the price is less than half what a name brand costs.

Have a good one!

Started out warm and humid then storms and rain around lunch time then clearing less humid and now big storm forecast to stay east of here no rain for the weekend. Big holiday weekend coming up one more day of work then three days off

Good morning, our late night weather forecast sometimes shows what is happening on the other side of the Atlantic, as we often get a tamed down version of that a few days later. Last night it depicted in green a mean prediction for hurricane Hermine. Looks like everyone from Florida up is going to be holding on tight to their hats today.

The company I do most work for changed hands a few years ago. At the time it was said that they don't particularly like people like me, who aren't under their direct control and work from home. I expected the work to soon dry up, but that hasn't happened at all, in fact I've been taking on more than I really wanted or needed. The money is nice to have, but it's not going to be buying me any extra years on my life.

Well, thanks to our discussions on "Good Morning", I am making a change. From now on I'm only going to do 2 days of engineering work and spend the rest of my week in the fields, finishing the house and playing in the 'shop. Do you think 5 days a week is enough practice before full time retirement ?

Kyle, no kidding, you really got yourself a machine that will make liquid nitrogen ? Man, you are so cool !
