Thanks. Seems like the path they showed this morning swung 250 miles east from last night...but predicting one of these is tough.

So many things going on have to wait until retirement however many more years that may take

Do not see a lot of rain for you until October at the earliest

Larro, be careful down there, looks like this hurricane is going over your head.
Still forecast for more than five inches of rain Friday into Saturday. Will be a real test of my water ditches.

off with an older neighbor to look at that IH tractor this morning. Hope he decides to hold off on chewing tobacco and spitting while he's in my truck;
gosh that grosses me out. But not uncommon here; all that constant spitting, yuk. Since he owns the same model tractor, I want his educated foot/leg on the clutch(es) to see if they take up and engage properly. Apparently the brakes are a wet system, and if one does not change the linings every 1000 hours or so, the disc material disintegrates and fouls the common hydraulic fluid, ruining the pump and other parts. And the pto pump can be an issue. But otherwise everyone says the tractors are bulletproof. German engines, Bosch FI pump, I wonder built by whom?..., installed in a British tractor and sold here.
Perhaps IH was big enough internationally back then where they had their own engine factory in Germany.

Drinking first cup of coffee. 61° with clear skies this morning. Heading to 71 with partly cloudy skies. Going to finish pine tree cleanup. Then cut lawn.
Thanks all for the prayers and wishes. We have been working toward the diagnoses for 4 months. Wife has been thinking that normal life was over. After yesterdays diagnoses and plan to keep ALS under control her outlook for future has made a 180ï½° turn.
Buppies, retirement has me collecting more stuff than I had before retirement. Best to get rid of a lot of STUFF before retirement. So you will have a place for the retirement STUFF. :D
Drew, my 58 Farmal had the brakes like you describe. Did not have problem with them in the 27 years I had the tractor. The PTO was not hydraulic. But had a very heavy duty control arm that required putting your foot and weight on to get PTO not to turn when tractor was warmed up. I did haying with it. My neighbor had a MF135. Nice tractor. But the weight and power of my Farmal ran circles around it.
Good Morning All.

Good morning all, 66 this morning going to 81 with a 30% chance of showers/thunderstorms until 8 pm. Cooler for the next few days. Wife's sister bringing mother in law for her weekly visit this am then work on pantry. Trying to do construction quietly is a challenge, I am using screws in the joist hangers and will take back the nails. Still have some demo before I get to that though.
Thanks for all of the well wishes ect on the car everyone, feel like it will work for us well and the 40 mpg is a bonus. Thankful to find something that works. You don't think about special needs being applied to a car until you are there.

Be careful with the TS everyone, you are all important.

Have a great day. Ed

Good morning! 73˚ heading to the mid 90's, partly cloudy. Looking at the 10 day forecast we are finished with the 100˚ days and I am anxiously waiting for that first morning in the 60s. It's still more than 10 days away.

Today I'll go and do some mowing at Dad's with his tractor and 8' mower. This will be the first time since I repaired the broken front spindle axel.

Does anyone else have snow on the mountain? Mine is 6 feet deep.

since so many of us own Kubotas, I'll add to the filter cost discussion. Filter very high quality, metal mesh and reinforcing rubber, made in Germany (Mann?) and looks like something that would cost twenty or thirty bucks. Messicks has it for apparent list, 79.95; I got five bucks off at my local Kubota parts counter. But lo and behold, someone seems to make a cross reference: has the same look but so far not vetted
Amazon.com: Luber-finer LAF8749 Heavy Duty Air Filter: Automotive

now I don't know who makes luberfiner filters and if you tell me they are importing something cheap from China, well...but unlikely. Why doesn't Stens make a comparable filter? The Luberfiner filter does not look like it has the metal mesh, so this is not apples to oranges but unknown. Aah the half price allure...
I am NOT, however, putting the equivalent of a Harbor Freight filter on my expensive tractor.
Not for a filter I only need to change once a year with my use. Very little mowing.
Clean oil, clean air, clean fuel and the diesel will likely outlast ten of me.
A Wix from Napa would do just fine. No such luck.

I've been looking up replacement parts for this possible new addition. Very plentiful and reasonable.
Still....that like new Massey sitting with its shiny paint in the dealer lot continues to have appeal.
I could easily spend five grand fixing something major inside this old tractor, and then I'd be right at the cost of the
almost new one. Hmmmmm.

Drew, make sure any tractor you purchase has the ability to run slow enough to operate a tiller in never tilled before soil.
Luber-Finer is a high end filter manufacture for heavy-duty equipment industry. Plus they usually are cheaper that OEM. Most equipment company's have a outside company make their filters. That's why you see such a high mark up. I use Luber-Finer filters on my JD, Kubota and Duramax.

Maybe another Kubota older but all those seem to be high for resale around where I look.

Not only high for resale, but tippy as well. My land slopes pretty steeply as well, and I spend a harrowing amount of time with one wheel in the air. And my particular Kubota, an L3240, hasn't been all that reliable, either. Why not an older JD compact? I feel like I should have given them more consideration before purchasing the Kubota.

70 this morning and headed to 81 today. Looks like cold front is sitting right on top of us.

Need to walk birds and then get back to hay cutting. Maybe it'll go better today. Didn't get near what I wanted to cut yesterday.

Gun cleaning didn't go well either. Although everything works better, it's still not right. I'm thinking something to do with the shell lifter in the trigger assembly is bent. Lifter sticking. Lots of metal filings. Will try to shoot it today. May end up barrowing a gun to hunt with today.

Lenny. The MF65 is a larger tractor. Have a neighbor that is selling one now. It's set up more for 7 foot equipment. I'd look at the MF35, IH444, 454, 464, 474, 484, JD 1010, 1020, 2040, Ford/NH 3000, 3600, 3610, maybe even the 4000, 4600, 4610 though they are getting big again. Just stay away from anything gas.

Drew. Good luck on search.

Came out of the appointment with a positive diagnoses of Lou Gehrig's Disease (ALS).

That's heart breaking, Ron. Not much comfort, but at least you have a direction now, and it is good that you're already familiar and have had good treatment at the Mayo facility. I wish nothing but the best for your wife and you going forward.

Morning guys. Getting a late start today, going to finish up one job here at home, then cut grass at my wife's shop. Might make a run to loews or HF....

Pretty day outside, hope you guys do well!

Good Morning! 62F @ 7:20AM on this fine first day of September. Sunny to partly cloudy. High near 90F. Winds SSW at 5 to 10 mph.

Propane tank was filled yesterday, along with four 25 lb. picnic bottles. 220 gallons all together, not bad for about two years of use. The wood stove purchased from the same company has allowed me to stop using the propane fired central furnace. I'll have to wait for the bill to find out the per gallon price; I've heard that in some parts of the country propane is now below $2/gallon!

Got the edges sanded and masked on the four van doors yesterday, and after it warms up a bit here I'll get some blue paint on 'em. In the mean time I'll sand the test door so I can shoot that as well, hopefully picking up a little practice with the new gun. Then it's off to town to run an errand or two on the recently repaired motorcycle. Always hate to take a trip on something I've just worked on without taking at least one shake down ride. Steering head bearings have a habit of loosening up initially, and it would be nice to not have to adjust them on the road.

This weekend's trip is called a gypsy tour because we only learn of our next day's destination the night before. So three nights camping in three different locations, with a poker run both Saturday and Sunday during which we answer questions about what we see along the way to earn cards to make our best poker hand. I've been making this ride for twenty some years now, and have won second or third place once. That was a 1/4 oz. gold coin, but that was back in the day of sub $1k/oz. gold. Now they may award a single gold coin for 1st place, and I don't even think it's a quarter ounce.

Hang in there, gang, Friday's comin!

Good day today. Well kind of. Our neighbor that is a Doctor did some searching for us and found a doctor to give my wife a second opinion on her diagnoses. Happened so fast this morning that our heads are still spinning. Stopped the pine tree project. Got an appointment with one of the top doctors in Michigan for ALS. Came out of the appointment with a positive diagnoses of Lou Gehrig's Disease (ALS). It has not made any change in her for over 9 months. Since she started feeling something was wrong. This doctor is aggressive in treating ALS patients. Already have therapy planned and other procedures that should help keep the disease at bay.
Doctor is also recommending that we see a ALS specialist at Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, AZ. Where my wife is already a patient for a bone marrow disease. Our visit to them for that has made a very positive improvement in that condition.
It's not what we wanted to hear. But we have been aware that this is what she has for several months. Now to get to work and keep it progressing further.

Ron, sorry to here about your wife, prayers are with her.

Had some nice rain showers so far today, and still looks like we are gonna get hit by the rain and wind on the weekend. The track further east is worse for us, put us on the rain and wind side.

http://www.diesel-filters.com/c-14-...i-industrial-heavy-truck-and-bus-off-highway/

yeah, now down to 18 bucks! and built by Mann. No wire mesh. Maybe the oem is the severe duty filter and for normal light duty use the
non reinforced filter is fine. Mann makes good filters usually. Good to know about Luberfiner.
back to regular programming. I'm sure there are multiple Kubota parts threads where this should be.

the weather report just keeps getting worse. Now over seven inches of rain predicted over two days.
Apparently the system is going to stall over the coast for awhile.

Pine trees are trimmed and all weed growth has been removed. Got the mowing done. Was doing the last section in back field. When it started raining. Stayed out in the rain and finished cutting. Because rain was fall much harder back at the barn. Got soaked. Maybe I should be looking at one them fancy tractors with a cab.
