Good morning!!!!

1.41 inches through the night, 7.49 inches predicted for today. Yikes. About to start in next few hours.
I'm going to make a quick trip downtown to the supermarket when they open, beat most of the crowd, and then stay put. This much rain will surely
flood the roads; no sense being out there. I can watch standing water in my lawn...
45mph winds predicted for Sat; need to take in all flags, umbrellas, etc.
This could be stick city by the time it passes; and if that's all it is, fine.
Glad Larro did ok.

Good morning all. 61 here this morning going to 77 :) with no rain. Worked on putting a pantry over the basement steps yesterday. Got the floor framed and the flooring cut. After I get the flooring down I need to cut the door into the dining room. Not looking forward to that as it has nice wall paper on the walls that I don't want to mess up. Wife and I are going on a "date" today. Getting a setter and will be gone from about 9 am to 4 pm. Will eat out and do some shopping and hit the downtown stores in Staunton just to see what is there. The quilt shop will be one of them, My wife is an old time quilter. Has one in the quilting frames that she hand sewed together and is hand quilting. She does very precise work, nothing sloppy. It takes a while but she loves it. The last one she did she sewed on the machine and it had 113 pieces in a less than 12 in square and it was a queen size quilt. Then she hand quilted it.

All of you in Hermine's way, lay low and watch out.

Roy, Glad you audit is over, sounds like time for a nap.

Eric,
Have a great day. Ed

66 going to 79.

Got a shower yesterday, but dried out enough by late afternoon to finish the mowing. Ground was too wet for planting, but plan that today.

Ed, if you haven't been, visit the American Shakespeare Center in Staunton...it has the only recreation of Shakespeare's Blackfriars Playhouse...the tours are very interesting, then eat at Emilios...plus there is an old fashioned sandwich shop with home made pie on Beverly St if you don't like Italian. Enjoy your well deserved date.

RNG - Enjoy your gypsy ride...sounds like fun. I like that blue kolor...if my Kubota ever needs repainting...

Kyle, frozen oxygen sounds cool.

Drew, I hope you have a safe place to stash the Jag.

Need to pour second cup of coffee. 57 with clear skies this morning. Heading to 73 with mostly sunny skies. Need to go to Lowes and pickup some mulch for flower gardens. Got a doctor appointment in afternoon. Then relax in afternoon. Going to have good weather for holiday weekend. I am ready for some R&R.
Thanks again for all the kind words and prayers.
Roy, enjoy the weekend. You need a rest.
Drew, having a low rider out during a 7" rain storm is not a good thing.
All those in way on storms stay safe.
Good Morning All.

Don, a phD chemist at work is from Poland. His mom is trying to get his dad in a chelation program over there to hopefully unclog his arteries. I told him you were a very studied up person and I would ask if you knew of this? Supposedly, the calcium (which is a metal, and considered by some to be a heavy metal) can be chelated away by offering it a better host in the blood stream if I'm understanding it correctly. Then your blood has to be filtered somewhat like dialysis to remove the chelated calcium. This takes something like up to 20-30 treatments.

The studies regarding chelation therapy are inconclusive. Even if you are able to remove the calcium, you have not resolved the underlying disease and inflammation. A great example of disease in patients without calcium build-up is with heart scans. Heart scans are designed to show calcium build-up in the arteries and thereby, show the extent of heart disease in patient's without symptoms. One of the problems with the scans is that they can and do show false negatives in patients without calcium build-up. Some of the patients with excellent heart scans go on to have heart attacks. There are two types of plaque: Hard and soft. The hard plaque contains calcium, but grows slowly and allows the body to grow collateral vessels. These patients aren't healthy, but are less likely to have heart attacks. The soft plaque doesn't have as much calcium, but doctors have found that this plaque is more vulnerable to rupture thereby causing blood clot formation and a heart attack. The bottom line is: Calcium build-up is just one aspect of coronary artery disease, but may indicate a more stable disease. As far as I can tell, chelation therapy has not been shown to remedy heart disease.

Good morning, our late night weather forecast sometimes shows what is happening on the other side of the Atlantic, as we often get a tamed down version of that a few days later. Last night it depicted in green a mean prediction for hurricane Hermine. Looks like everyone from Florida up is going to be holding on tight to their hats today.

The company I do most work for changed hands a few years ago. At the time it was said that they don't particularly like people like me, who aren't under their direct control and work from home. I expected the work to soon dry up, but that hasn't happened at all, in fact I've been taking on more than I really wanted or needed. The money is nice to have, but it's not going to be buying me any extra years on my life.

Well, thanks to our discussions on "Good Morning", I am making a change. From now on I'm only going to do 2 days of engineering work and spend the rest of my week in the fields, finishing the house and playing in the 'shop. Do you think 5 days a week is enough practice before full time retirement ?

Kyle, no kidding, you really got yourself a machine that will make liquid nitrogen ? Man, you are so cool !

Eric, semi retirement would be great if you want to.

Roy, glad it's over. Beer time soon I figure. Are you the guy responsible for the quality plan?

60 this morning and headed to 82 today.

Dove hunting yesterday was a bust. Seen some but not close enough to shoot. Maybe another day. Hopefully I'll finish cutting hay today. It's thick and this old cutter is hating it. I got used to the new cutter and didn't realize how much better it did. No end panel to bring the hay around, as that seams to be the cause of my constant clogging.

Drew. Turtle report.

Everyone in the path of the storm. Stay safe and dry.

Don, I wonder about if it can help your brains arteries or if you could get an aneurysm while being treated?

turtles are moved to a high point near a tree. Foodshopping done, flags in, umbrellas down, hanging plants in, etc etc.
Car is in the garage, took it this morning and it ran great. Truck outside, but the house is on relatively high ground. Like one foot higher...however the first floor
is three feet up from the ground and no basement for just this reason.

Makes me wonder about the generac gen outside; thinking it would have been smart to elevate that several feet. Builders said they found evidence
of water marks on foundation piers almost two feet high. Last big hurricane apparently; direct hit. Well, I suppose I could sand bag the gen if needed.
Two feet of water inside that gen would not be good at all. Not this storm, but possible. Sandbag it and put a little electric sump pump next to it.

Hermine is headed our way also, we're looking for wind and rain, more if it stalls off the coast as some predict. Our cool dry fall weekend is now a cool wet fall weekend. I have to get busy putting away deck furniture, cleaning gutters just to be sure, stake my apple tree, make provisions for the outdoor cats. Be safe guys.

One of my "scores" from work is a cryogenic cold head. You can make liquid nitrogen, or argon, or other stuff, but not easily. This one is "hopped up" and I was told it can actually solidify oxygen. Use liquid nitrogen to freeze those bearing races stuck in the steering stem.

Something like that could come in quite handy around the shop, Kyle. You gonna hang onto it?

I once used some liquid nitrogen to freeze some foam stereo earplug tips so I could turn them down just a scosh in the lathe. Got the perfect diameter for a more comfortable fit. Been looking for a reasonably priced LN dewar ever since.

I tried out my new HF sliding miter saw today. Works great, and with a Admiral 60 tooth carbide blade, it leaves a nice finish. I've never had any HF power tools before, this looks pretty good, and the price is less than half what a name brand costs.

I have one of their large bridge type tile saws, and have gotten quite a bit of use out of it. Picked up a tip about using a separate water container for the blade coolant by reading the reviews on the HF web site, and I believe that saved the pump from an early death. Some of the stuff at HF is real junk, but the reviews are very helpful in sorting them out. And if you end up with a dud, the 90 day refund policy or inexpensive warranties can come in handy. Good luck with the saw. What do you have planned for it?

Do you think 5 days a week is enough practice before full time retirement ?

I'm not the right one to ask because I retired cold turkey. But if you're unsure you'll like retirement, tapering down to two days a week should help you get more comfortable with the idea while still leaving the door open to change your mind. I'm bettin' you wont have any trouble at all "adjusting", and the two days a week will quickly come to seem like two days too much.

Not too late to lift the gen and pad, Drew. When I moved here the A/C unit was right next to the house, but about two feet lower than the start of the south wall. When I regraded that side, the A/C unit would have been under two feet of dirt. I put the forks on the tractor, lifted the A/C unit and its pad, then slipped a bunch of cinder blocks under the whole mess. Gently set it down, back filled and tamped the dirt, and it's been just fine for the last several years.

Good Morning! 70F @ 8:30AM. Abundant sunshine. High 87F. Winds light and variable.

Good that audit is over, Roy. Now maybe you'll have a little more ammo next time you suggest a change that management doesn't agree with.

Got a little half hour ride on the motorcycle just before dinner last night. It's soooo nice to have the steering respond linearly again. And to know that the weird handling wasn't due to the new tires, though I suspect they'll still track rain grooves. I'll find out when I swing through Chico on my way to the rally site today to pick up those lost screws at the VW dealer. While I'm in town I'll also hit a grocery store to snag some peanut butter crackers, beef jerky, and hard candy for the road. I can't count the times I've been stuck somewhere on a trip with no place handy to get a meal, or just needing to make time and not stop, and having stuff like that in a saddle bag can make a huge difference.

But before all that I still need to get my sleeping bag stuffed, air mattress rolled, and tent all strapped onto the bike. Some breakfast would be nice, too.

Hope everyone enjoys the long weekend, and that the hurricane peters out or wanders off into the Atlantic sooner than expected.

Greetings from Burke, Va 79°F and not a tractor in sight. Nice to visit with son and his family, but I could do without the traffic.
Only 70°F back home.

Be safe
Have a great day

70.3F @ 12:30 ... somewhat overcast right now, but sun occasionally peaks through. High today supposed to hit 78F.

Having a hard time keeping up with this thread.

Work on the playground was put off until weather cooled off, and then put off again until tomorrow and Sunday when Mike's son could help us.

Re-powered the log splitter yesterday with 6.5 hp Predator engine from Harbor Freight. Fitted up no problem, seems to work good ... and is much quieter than the Briggs it replaced ... and it doesn't leak oil.

Have to go pick up steel from Slesnicks to relocate the cylinder mount for the log lift, then probably work on that. Also need to add more of a knife edge on the 4-way.

Best wishes to all.
