Good morning!!!!

GOOD AFTERNOON...boy, did it cool off fast here the past few days...it was in the high forties on the weekend and today it's down to 16 degrees with a brisk breeze that makes it feel like 4 above. Glad we have no places to go. A pair of her grandkids, 3 and 6 year old girls are here for a few days, slowly demolishing the orderly rooms and terrorizing the cats...the only way I can bear them is that they are filling the house with the scent of baking cupcakes...I gotta do penance before I get to devour those. Been doing little today except reading and totalling up my budget for 2014. Nothing really urgent...but I wish we could get a nice medium snowfall so I can burn my brushpile....this one is even bigger than the one I burnt 3 years ago.

Good Afternoon. 1345, mostly cloudy, 61F with 85% humidity. Forecast high of 63F with 0% chance of rain this afternoon, and a low of 47F tonight. The brief flirtation with the sunshine is over and we are back to our regularly scheduled gray day. But it's not raining or cold, so I'll take it. {Not that I have much choice in the matter}

A few days ago Mamma and her friend saw a truck over at the old house. They stopped to check it out and there was a young man taking pictures of the house and sheds. He was a picker and bought an old upright lamp from her and arranged to meet her over there this morning. Well she ended up having to run into town and ask me to meet him. I ended up selling him and his friend $113 worth of junk. So in case any of you ever wanted to know what $113 worth of junk looks like, I'll post a couple of pictures at the bottom. The young man is from here but lives in Nashville now. He said he tries to resale some of it, but that a lot always ends up in their house. He ran out of room and money, but said he would call me when they come back in the summer.

Tim, you got a great tractor there. Enjoy it.

Hope everyone is having a good day,

Larro

10F. Don't think we made it past 18F today but clear blue sky all day long.

Dropped off the recycling and made a grocery run today. I tell you groceries just keep going up, up.

Larro, I think you made out pretty well on your sales.

19F and cloudy ... low tonight is predicted to be 12F ... and the high tomorrow is only supposed to be 20F :(

Was 66F in the house when I woke up an hour ago, now down to 65F ...

I loaded up the stove first thing when I woke up, but going in and out the front door to get wood out of the van has probably knocked it down a degree ...

Luckily there was a nice bed of coals and I had some nice seasoned maple, so getting a good roaring fire going only took a minute or so ...

Still no gas valve anywhere in sight ...

Now I just need to head up to the shop and get that one stoked up before it goes/burns out ...

But not before I have my coffee.

Got all the equipment manuals and project receipts sorted out and filed away last night/this morning, welding table cleared off, and stationary tub unburied ...

The drain for that tub just empties out (for the moment) into a bed of hosta and there is no trap on the drain. I couldn't believe the amount of cold coming into the shop thru it, when I got it unburied ...

Fortunately I had a stopper ... :D

Tonight's menu will be more cleaning and organizing ... hopefully get enough space cleared to bring the Kubota in tomorrow to change the gear oil in the front axle and adjust the PRV's. Also need to finish installing the block heater.

Might tack up some of the steel for the log lift on the splitter and maybe the masts for the grapple ...as well as straightening out the top part of the backstop on the pallet forks and getting that welded on.

Hope everyone had a good day.

Good evening all. 34F and sunny this morning, as the front moved through it got windier and cloudier. Forecast was for 44F and that was about right. Spent the day demolishing an old rotten landscape wall. The hard part was removing the rebar, had a chain and jack to pull them out. Most of the rebar was driven 4+ feet into the ground.
Leaving for home in the morning :)

Tim Nice tractor, and welcome!

Don can't believe you waited this long to use that nice stove!

Bill Welcome back!

Thomas did you survive the stove shopping trip and get a good one?

Me either. But remember, I had the AC on last week at this time. I got another two trunks with limbs of mesquite cut - no splitting necessary 1" to 8" diameter, that should last through Saturday. That was one sprawling mesquite tree with 6 trunks before the drought killed it. It is making some nice hot coals.
43˚ outside.

Good evening guys,

Thanks for the welcome. My wife and I are pretty excited about the tractor, looking forward to putting it to work.

28 degrees this morning going up to 48 today in what should be a nice day.
I need to run some errands this morning, pick up some new switchplates for the kitchen; the beige ones don't go with the new tile; hope Lowes has the darker ones. My local Lowes is no prize though; Home Depot pulled out of this area and left just this one store here. However the local Ace is exceptional, and between the Ace and Lowes, and for sure Amazon..., I can get it done. I just got my new bathroom tp holder, towel holder, etc from Amazon, all commercial Moen stuff; not what I'd find in Lowes. This renovation has sure shown me that there really are two quality lines out there for these plumbing fixture makers; I always thought that was marketing hype to charge more money. No, one is metal and weighs twice as much as the plastic one found at Lowes. And what I got from Amazon perfectly matches what the plumbers installed. Perhaps it was specifying the line name for Moen, and maybe certain line names are top quality only. I'm pretty ignorant on this; always bought the stuff at Lowes. If the better fixture is fifty or a hundred bucks more, overall it seems worth it because the plumber's labor cost makes the cost of fixtures just a tiny part of things. If I knew how to do "real" plumbing, then likely not. Just replace the cheaper one when it wore out. But I sure have never fussed with Pex (?) fittings, though it didn't look that hard. Just a fancy crimper in a way. And I was assured Pex was ok. ?

Sure is different from the solid copper piping I grew up with. Of course more than a few homes caught on fire with that stuff due to plumbers and homeowners sweating pipes. And copper obviously is impossibly expensive now. If I put it in, might feel I'd have to polish it....:D
Plastic probably insulates slightly better too. Miracles of modern plastic. It's everywhere, it's everywhere. Just like the lovely lady in The Graduate said...

Nice 28 out this AM.

Happy New Year!

I for one am glad to see a year go by, to say it was rough is an understatment. I usually do not let time go without enjoying it, but 2014 will be a forgotten memory to me.

My goals this New Year are to enjoy it, stress less and smile more. Find employment that suits me, provide for my family and community, and sell my Kubotas. I will focus on lawn only, the haying is over. Time to start enjoying our "farm".

2F calm & mostly clear. 20F is today's forecast.

riptides: Happy New Year to you too! Wishing you a better 2015. Sounds like you've made some healthy decisions and resolutions.

Drew: I don't know the mystery of plumbing fixture quality. As of 2006, American Standard made some good stuff if you searched it out and some of their big box lines were excellent values. You shouldn't have to mess with the PEX to change a fixture. The PEX usually ends at the shut-off valve, then regular threaded supply lines from the valve to the fixture. Plastic sure is everywhere, our urine, breast milk, the ocean ... sigh. Well, copper mining and smelting is not all that nice either.

Good morning, 16F here heading to 19F. Heading out to my mother's house today to pick up some hydraulic cylinders, motors and a hydraulic pump that came off of an old JD 45 combine. There is also a few sheets of 3/4" plywood and a metal shelving unit that I can find a use for. That should just about take care of all my stuff there in the shed. My sister has most of the rest either scrapped or donated and she should be just about ready to put house up for sale.

20 and heavy frost headed to 40. Cloud front to the south looks like a tall mountain range.

After the last of our guests left yesterday, I took my wife out for some Tex-Mex to get all those Christmas tastes out of our mouths :). Nothing like a chile relleno with Hatch sauce to send the taste of turkey, ham, and salmon to the back seat. Then we took in our first movie theatre experience of the year, using some gift certificates. I personally think the movie offerings have gone downhill over the years, at least tough to justify the prices. But we had to see one of our favorite books from long ago up on the screen - The Hobbit. Boy, those computers sure make some kind of movie.

6 degrees and light snow right now...no appreciable accumulation expected...just enough to make the roads slick. High today will be 23. Stepdaughter is heading to SE New Hampshire to party with friends, so wifey and I have the house to ourselves.
Got about half a case of beer, a bottle of wine and a bottle of champagne...we're good for New Year's Eve.

Tomorrow is my birthday, BTW....65.

30 this morning here in the smokies. We head home today. Been a decent vacation. But this place is sure crowded stood in line for over two hours yesterday just to ride a tram up a mountain to take the boy to see some animals. Get to the top and it's snowing so they have to put up the animals (river otters and such). How do these things live in the wild. Traffic wasn't bad til Gatlinburg then it was terrible. Nice bass pro shops down here and of course can't leave without going to the knife works. Had a pretty good time but can't wait to get home. As you can probably tell I'm not much of a vacationer. Wife loves it except for the excessive line standing and traffic.
