18F @ 05:20 ... that's up a few degrees from what it was @ 01:00

High is only supposed to hit the upper 20's today ... and for the next several days.

Hopefully the new (replacement) gas valve for the furnace will be in today.

Was 66F here in the house when I came down from the shop @ 04:00 (as compared to 75F in the shop )

I've been surprised at how warm it stays in there, while I'm not there, even when the fire goes out ... the building is masonry block walls - with an 8' dry wall ceiling which is insulated - but the walls aren't ...

Must be a thermal mass thing or something, although I'm sure the caulking and the weather stripping I've done is helping.

Today is trash day ... so I spent most of the night cleaning up and carting crap out to the trash bin ... although I did get a little fab work done here and there ...

now you just keep that white stuff up your way Buppies, 9 degrees warmer here, chance of light rain later, then a drying trend and what appears to be a clear New Years Eve. I stopped driving on New Years Eve almost twenty years ago. Never got a chance to sleep in anyway since when I was a volunteer fireman, almost always there was an auto extrication or something bad at around 3am Jan 1. Driving and booze sure don't mix, but then we all know that right?

Besides, hard to stay up past 10pm anyway when you get up at 4-5am.

tile contractor coming today to finish the kitchen, yeah. And carpenters coming to finish a laundry list of stuff, including all the trim work in the new bathroom/closet. They really did nice work so far, Clay Campbell of Williamston NC, and his son have worked together for years. They yammer back and forth working like two old women (sorry....) and it's almost always how to do the task better. They have such a good attitude towards things, and the two of them work for 400 a day combined. The GC adds twenty percent, but they still are underpaid, particularly as productive as they are. I told them to ask for a raise and they said they would, after they finish my house. I gave the guy a little business plan on how to set up his charges for services, and he was delighted, but it was a lot to digest for him. Stuff like mileage to a job, etc. He just ate all the expenses on 200 a day. Including his glue, nails, etc......just not good for a small business person. I want a long term relationship with these guys, since they are such bargains for the quality work they do. So they know I'm looking out for them also.
And they speak English y'all.

time to get a move on. Have to haul everything off the kitchen counters, again...but at least when the backsplash tile is finished, I can put stuff back right away. oh if my bedroom were done too...four months and I'm still not in that room. It will be a happy new year when that is done for sure.

Once the sun hangs in the sky for while than its of to Rutland,VT ,Mrs. want to check out Woodchuck wood furnace looking to up grade...this could be interesting,pity the saleman try's any BSing w/her.

Did anyone notice shooting stars around 4:30am this morning,talk about sight to see.

9F this morning. Sunny day ahead but high around 20F. I didn't fire the masonry heater stove yesterday evening but it was still slightly above room air temp. It was 69F in the living area, 14F outside, when I went to bed around 11:30 pm, 66F this morning. We had clear sky yesterday that warmed the house up pretty good. Thermal mass really works.

37 this morning here in the smokies. Been a cloudy and rainy vacation. Last full day here. The aquarium was a bust too many people to look at anything and the boy needs motion to keep his interest. Most of the fish there seamed to just hang out. Didn't try the lift up to ober Gatlinburg yesterday. Clouds were too low. Think they maybe today also.

Drew good to hear that they are back to work on your place. 4 months isn't that long of a time hang in there. Growing up we lived in a house me and dad remodeled for 5 years.

Slow day, nice and sunny, but cold. Didn't get much done today, but I'll survive that We went for a walk today, our dogs loved it, running back and forth, we walked maybe 2 miles, they must have done 5. Trying to get some thinking done, about what we want to do this year. If you don't set some goals, you can't achieve any?

You are thinking about goals for THIS year? Kinda late, in my biased opinion...but Good Morning anyway

Drinking second cup of coffee. 41° with mostly clear skies this morning. Heading to 64° with lots of sun today. Off to tire dealer to get 4 new tires on motorhome. Good size dent in pocketbook. :irked:

Just took the garbage can down to the road. It's nippy out there. We have some cold weather in the next week's forecast.

I'll have to fire the stove later today. If it cools down below room temp it becomes a heat sink the rest of the house is trying to keep warm.

We got our new tractor this afternoon.

Tim, excellent tractor choice, looks like mine but 10 years younger. Mine also came with orange cat, Drew's dealer must have been withholding the Kubota freebies for himself.

Good morning! 42˚ and foggy. Yesterday the winds shifted from the south for 12 hours and the temps hit 62˚ but they have now shifted from the North. The temps will stay at or below 50 for the rest of the week and right above freezing at night. All the Christmas decorations go back into the attic today.
The WBS was allowed to burn down yesterday and the house is still 67˚ without the central heater, but it looks like another fire for New Years Eve.
