76F and partly cloudy @ 13:30, that may well be the high for the day ... (y)

Going through a cooler period for the next four days with highs only in the 70's before the 80's return on Friday.

Woman just came in from weeding out back, says She got hungry ... ;)

Finished up cleaning off the rest of the underside of the Cub deck yesterday, still need to take the debris up to the compost pile:

And swapped out the old blades for the new ones and got those torqued on. Old ones were in pretty decent shape, scraped off the heavy debris, now just need to take them up to the shop for sharpening:

After that I checked the oil, and headed out to start mowing the front. Got that about 75% done, including the part that I wasn't able to finish before all those torrential rains moved in the other day. That part was probably 5" - 6" tall.

Was still wet in spots and kinda made a mess, leaving muddy tracks on the lawn ... :(

Currently the Ten Day is showing very little chances of rain (< 15% - 20%) throughout the period ... so those will be around for a while ... ;)

Might get the front finished up today ... plus see what else needs cut. Or not.

My mowing yesterday did not prevent the deer from continuing to clean up the apples however:

All the rain has really helped keep things green this year (lawn usually goes dormant and turns brown around this time ... due to lack of moisture) which I'm pretty happy about ... just not real happy about all the mowing that has to occur as a result ...

Today is the last day Menards has Fall Turf Food on sale ... so will probably make up an order for that and get it placed since I never fertilized this year.

Not sure what else we might get into, but it's definitely a target-rich environment.

Hope everyone is having a good Sunday ... (y)

...Can't seem to find any stations near me that sell E0. Aggravating. Can't get decent gas, or even a decent can to put it in anymore.
Try the PureGas website for E0 gas stations.

I used to like the NoSpill cans, but the trigger spring on the last one I got was so stiff it was difficult to use. More government over reach I suppose.

Good Afternoon Guys,
A late check in today ! 😩
58 to start going to 73 or so !

LouNy, thank you so much for all the great antique tractor pictures ! I’m guess my 49 Super A would have been right at home there !

RNG, to replace the little nub as you call it or key, you just have to lower the spindle quill down slightly and remove a set screw to gain access to that key ! Should be fairly straight forward !

All have a blessed and safe day ! 🙏

good afternoon as well, 85 today as the high no rain

Went up to the local park and looked at the Ford A club and the cars.

I replaced the Stihl carburetor diaphragm with an Oregon one at low cost and it worked. Usually don't have good luck working on those carbs. Have a couple of chainsaws waiting for more effort. Suspect the seals on the crank are leaking. Pressure holding is good but it may not hold vacuum.

WE HAVE RAIN!!!!
102˚ outside and the drops are evaporating in about 2 seconds. This is the pic with the most rain showing. Humidity still 32%. keeping our fingers crossed for some more.
edit: 10 minutes later humidity down to 31% and temp has gone up to 103˚.
The drops must have missed the Tempest rain gauge which goes by drops not accumulation, it is still showing no rain.

Unleaded gas raises H with older gas engines, but it's illegal to use leaded gas or leaded additives on the street. So how do you fly boys keep the EPA off your backs?

It doesn’t look great for the future…

My work planes all burn kerosene, but not my little ones. Any replacement has a lot of regulatory hurdles.

Don, has your garden survived the heat with irrigation or have cutbacks done them in?
The heat has caused the rest of the cantelope and watermelons to pop before they are ripe. I have not been out there for a week, as soon as I have a cool morning I'll pull every thing out and throw the plants into the compost dumpster and till the garden.

Wife is sick, seems she was forced to wear a mask in Dr. office the other day and now has an infection on her face where the mask was. She will be on antibiotics for a while :-(
Speedy recovery for your Mrs.

Enjoying a slow day here

Got power to hot tub. Seems breaker was sticking, not sure why. Will have to keep an eye on it. Decides to drain the tub again and refill. I refill with hot water from the on demand heater.

Chemistry for the pool getting close. Have to start thinking about adding the salt and making the conversion. Need to modify the electric a bit, add another receptacle to accommodate the chlorinator and charger for the cordless pool vac.

Need to load up some trash and make a detour to dump on the way to town

I use E0 in everything including truck and car. Fortunately readily available

That's what I thought, too. We even found three set screws in the quill that we hoped were the extened nose Allen screws. Nope. Downloaded a copy of the owner's manual for this old green PowerMatic, and saw that the quill has a sleeve inside, and the sleeve has the extended nose Allen screw. Probably wouldn't be a bad idea to take it apart for cleaning and lubrication anyway. I'm just glad it's not mine.

Good Evening RNG,
If memory serves me well this evening, on a Bridgeport mill, you loosen the set screws to remove the large threaded ring at the base of the quill. I believe that gives you access to the key we are talking about that drives the collets ! The Powermstics are very similar ! Have been retired as a modelmaker since 2008 so my memory is not quite that sharp anymore ! 😂
