I don't use anything but Non ethanol gas in my small engine equipment.

I swear by AvGas. Admittedly I have easy access to it, but I had a CJ5 that sat for almost ten years with AvGas in the tank. I put a leaf blower on the filler neck to push fuel from the tank through the fuel pump to the carb, jumped it, and it fired up instantly.
That was the old AMC straight 6.
It does have lead, so it’s a no go for anything with a cat.

Unleaded gas raises H with older gas engines, but it's illegal to use leaded gas or leaded additives on the street. So how do you fly boys keep the EPA off your backs?

what’s up with new carbs?

ethanol gas? Sometime even when you think you are buying pure gas they slip the corn in. The small outboards are supposed to be sensitive to fine dirt maybe the land equipment is too.

I think there is stabilizer in 2 stroke oil.

if our cars stop because of emissions, very inconvenient.
airplane engine stops because of emissions, very, very exciting.
maybe they get out on a safety clause?

RNG, isn't California extra tough on those regs?

still drives me nuts I had a choice of three E-0 premium stations within five miles of my home in NC, and they
are simply nonexistent here.

the flip side of corn and ethanol is buying a new Dodge Challenger SRT 170.
Makes over 1000 hp only on E-85
I guess there's more power in the corn...
The 170 designation is homage to drinking 170 proof alcohol.

at one point had more than a dozen small gas engines to maintain on farm.
They only got ethanol free. And some Sea Foam. They all worked and they all started.
It was really, really nice. Not the same before, or after.

Used to run avgas but no source now

We can't have planes falling out of the sky.

Figured out the wiring on my barn lights. Had to connect a black to a red for a pass through to my outside light that is on a different switch.

Good morning! Low of 55° -- definitely heading in the right direction. High today should be 82° -- also the right direction.
Missed out on the rain again.... storms to the right, clouds to the left.... here I am .... stuck in the middle .....

Now that song will be on repeat the rest of the day! ...

Successful trip getting the insulation yesterday, but not until some disagreement over the price was settled. After very specific web searches.... the manager was just calling HD asking or a price of "R21"..... not "rockwool insulation"--- which HD doesn't even carry. After showing him the Lowes price, he finally lowered the price.
Overall, saved about $175 for my aggravation!

We were able to get 90% of the transplants done.... then ran out of the potting mix. Not sure if I'll make a trip today, or wait until tomorrow to get some.

Didn't get to spread some mulch, so probably attempt to get that done today. Being we didn't get any rain, the drip irrigation will be going today.....

Another item on the list.... move the backhoe out of the garage to make room for the materials for the addition.
Might try to get that accomplished today....after I clear all the stuff that got piled against it.....

Everyone have a great day!

Another tragic Marine Corp Osprey crash, training in Aussie land. Prayers for the families of those lost, and for the injured to heal. I would NOT join the Marine Corp right now, if I knew I was going to have to fly on an Osprey.

I sure hope the powers that be are witnessing the Ukraine war, and having a major "oh crap moment" about the use of drones in upcoming fights.

If your buying non ethanol gas. Make sure it's from a dedicated pump on it's own nozzle. If your purchasing from a pump that has multiple options off the same nozzle, then you need to factor in what ever was pumped before you started is in the hose back to the check valve at the pump. So you could very well get a gallon of low test with ethanol before getting your high test non ethanol. You also paid a higher rate for the low test that was in the line.

67°F and cloudy this morning, going up to 81° today. Rain is in and out of the forecast for most of the day. Seems we're on the back end of the swirl, with winds coming from the northeast.

I thought about getting one of those HF scrapers a few years ago, wngsprd. May need to revisit that. I've been using a short-handled pry bar. Scraper would be more efficient.

I have a Husqvarna line trimmer that I've left gas in year-round for probably seven or eight years now. Never was a problem ... until Spring of this year, when I heard a rattle, and dumped the fuel filter and a rotted section of the fuel line out of it. Won't be doing that anymore. Can't seem to find any stations near me that sell E0. Aggravating. Can't get decent gas, or even a decent can to put it in anymore.

Need to mow today, but still too wet from overnight rain. 81% humidity isn't helping that cause. May be another inside day.

Good morning, gents.

Friend I grew up with just retired a few years ago (Master Gunnery Sergeant), elected to spend his last two years of active duty in an Osprey. When he said he was doing it, my reply was, "On purpose?!" He loved it, but acknowledged that they have some issues. One failure left them stranded at a small town airport for about a week until a replacement part could get there. Said the town's people found out why they were there, and brought the crew home-cooked meals every day.

A feeble attempt at getting pics of the hummingbirds..... was able to get one sitting on the feeder when another is landing.... the rest of 'em were too busy fighting.....
Entertaining for sure. IMG_1215.jpegIMG_1213.jpegIMG_1201.jpegIMG_1200.jpeg

I need to get a new digital SLR camera. My 35mm is waaay outdated...... I don't even know if I can get film for it anymore. Then the development.....

70°F and .28 inches rain

Old military guys luncheon a big success
The CIA program was excellent. John is an active writer on the subject. The Island Intelligencer | J.P. Atwell | Substack. If interested.
My grilled chicken proved very popular. Of 10 pounds prepared I have enough left for a light lunch. Lots of kudos from wives that I accomplished hosting without Sophie.

Need to investigate hot tub today - no power. Hope something simple.

Likely make a run into town later to brewery and HD

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

Me too. Of course mine is unplugged... ;)

mowed the lawn and checked air in rv tire. Down five pounds more than others.
think I still may have a slow leak in the valve extension. I'll watch it for another couple days.
fired up rv gen, let it run fifteen minutes with a/c on, both worked fine.

planning on energy conservation rest of day.

...the ember storm that swept through Paradise, and the fire tornado that almost took out all of Redding, CA, left very few homes standing like that one in Hawaii. And even if your home doesn't burn down, you still have to live with the smoke while it's burning everyone else's home.
The California, Hawaii, Canada (and other) fires have been a terrible thing, especially for folks living there like you and for those downwind.

No consolation, but the good news is that globally, wildfires have been trending down over the last 2 decades...down 35% from 20 years ago. NASA data shows a new record low for 2022, the last year with complete data.

It's just plain crazy, Drew. A while back they stopped allowing people to register Diesel trucks over a certain age. Earlier this year they outlawed sales of new devices that use small gas engines, like string trimmers and blowers. Trying to force everyone to go with electric/battery power.

Even crazier, last summer they issued alerts asking people not to charge their electric cars in the afternoon and evening because the grid wouldn't support it. Yet they still want to limit sales of gas engined vehicles.

For the brand new RAM van I just bought, I had to have it smog tested here in Kalifornia, even though it meets emissions regs in all 50 states. Sez so right on the sticker.

The inmates are clearly in charge of the asylum.
