Grading First Usage of the DK4210SE HST

You may find a box blade or box scraper is what you want. Heavy duty with some weight is good. Mine pretty much lives on my tractor, it's great counter weight for loader work. Pictures would help for input. But either way, you'll want to pay attention to drainage. Crown or outslope your roads to keep water off. This is where a top & tilt kit comes in handy. With those rear remotes you can make adjustments on the fly. Saves a lot of time.

I haven't hooked up my box blade once in the 4 years since purchasing my land plane (grading scraper). Once a year I use a rear blade to pull the edges in other than that the land plane is ideal for maintaining our mile driveway.

Here are some driveway shots this morning. Gravel more visible on the edges. Main surface is hard pan. No real issues in the summer with no rain but in the late fall/winter the driveway gets rutted and muddy. Gravel has been added periodically but gets disturbed when plowed in the winter.

Thanks for the pictures, they really help assess the situation. My recommendation is that ultimately you will need 2 separate implements. First, a LPGS, this will do the majority of your maintenance. Second, a good rear blade. This will be used to maintain the crown and keep the edges cleaned.

Thank you. Good advice. I have the Kioti RB2072 rear blade as one of the spare implements.

Thanks to everyone for their guidance. Now that I致e been schooled on gearing, I think I need a grading scraper. I have a half mile plus gravel driveway. I was given a $44,000 quote to blacktop it which is pointless since the driveway spills out to another 2.3 mile gravel country/private road. I think a grading scraper would help make the gravel driveway more tolerable.

Hi,
Land Planes are great for spreading stuff around, more of a cosmetic touch. But to rough up the hardpan so you don't get the potholes in the same spot you need to "resurface the driveway" kinda change the characteristics of the road, a boxscraper is much more able to dig into the hardpan, it does a really good job of smoothing it out as well. Not as nice a finish as a plane but a plane doesn't dig into the the road either. Also in most circumstances you shouldn't add gravel to the road, add "class A" or driveway topping, it packs hard and you get less transfer of gravel to the sides and it compacts better (hence the Box Scraper to grade it once a year. Have fun thats what it all about.
