Farm Security

A sheriff is suppose to do the right job to start with.

I have seen sheriffs that new that men was beating their wives and did nothing about it.

And a person that is getting no help from a sheriff, should never give him anything that would keep him in as a sheriff.

Of course you are right. And the whole idea is distasteful, but like it or not this is probably the lest costly and most effective way to deal with the problem. And I use cost in terms of money, time, frustration, and blood pressure.

The crimes being committed are never going to rise to the point of being a top law enforcement priority. This is not a "good" solution, but it could be an effective one.

You know, I just had an inspiration on this thread.

Is the do-nothing sheriff an elected official? Most places he is.

Before spending thousands on a security system that will only produce evidence the sheriff won't act on, and figuring ways to go over his head, take the easy way.

Have your wife arrange to meet him socially, and tell him she wants to make a contribution to his re-election campaign. Do it, then wait a month or two, call him up and tell him those dratted neighbors have done something again. For about 10% of what the security system would cost he will come out and take care of the problem. I bet there will not be another instance of vandalism.

No this isn't the way things are supposed to work, but in most areas there is a very strong "good old boys" network. The neighbors are part of it, and this is the quickest way for you to get into it.

Dave, I truly think you should change your screen name from CurlyDave to PracticleDave. The donaton doesn't even have to be that much, even $25 buck woud probably get you noticed.

Thanks fellas. I am done with the sheriff issue, I am not going to waste my time. It is not a productive avenue to pursue.

As for the Sheriff, I am done with that. They are not malicious just incompetent and stupid. In this day and age they have deputies wandering around without body armor and revolvers

if there is anyone more worthless than the Sheriff,

The Sheriff is being sued by just about all the deputies, all the inmates, and seems pretty clueless, our insurance rate for the jail went up and soon the county will be uninsurable. He will be gone soon but a clone will take his place. I will only involve the deputies to build my case as necessary.

I don't believe he will or (should) give the sheriff a dime to keep him in office.

He has already said that he is done with the sheriff, and the sheriff is being sued by the deputies. (sounds like a corrupt sheriff to me.)

I have spent over $2800 on security for my home and glad i made the investment, i didn't want to pay the sheriff the money that i spent because the sheriff can't stay at my property 24 hours a day and 7 days a week, and i don't know whats wrong with someone wanting some security for their property.

If a thief gets within 500 feet of my property i know about it without even getting up and looking out the window, and can go out of town for a week or so and when i get back home, i know everyone that has been here, what they were driving and where they were at on the property.

In these days you can't hardly trust anyone and many members on TBN have a lot of money invested in equipment.

So a little security won't hurt anything.

I really have a hard time with having to bribe someone to get them to do their job. I guess that "Chicago" and the current politics that have made the situation as it is is the way to go.........Death before dishonor is NOT the way of thinking anymore........Dennis

I respectfully suggest that a campaign contribution would be appropriate only for a candidate for Sheriff who has demonstrated a capacity of doing his job.

That would be right.

I have also done that and helped him put his signs up, he was in office for 16 years and helped people get jobs and was a great person.

And just because a person knew him well didn't mean you could break the law, he would catch us on the highways on dirt bikes and write us a ticket, and he did that to be fair to everyone.

But then you had the ones that helped him also, and they thought they could do what they wanted, but it didn't work with him.

Contact your state's commission on law enforcement standards, law enforcement investigation agencies, and you local state legislative representatives.

In Texas this would be, The Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education, Texas Rangers & House of Representatives/Congress.

Another effective way to presuade the locals is to contact your local paper/news channel's investigative reporter. They usually know how to push the right buttons and the fact that you're active duty Iraq will help a lot.

The last thing when you return would be to get involved in your areas political scene. Get in with the sheriffs challengers.

Of course all this has it's level of retaliation risk.

THANKS FOR YOUR SERVICE!

My 2cents worth. As a former Chicago Cop, I know one thing that will put the fear of God in anybody is the sound of racking a round into a 12 ga. Whenever any home owner used to ask my opinion as to proper home defense weapon,
knowing the amount of shaking that I did during the couple of shootouts that I was in, a scattergun is THE most effective weapon, even if you don,t have to fire it.

It works the other way around too. Years ago my brother was a sherrif's deputy in the Orlando, FL area. He told me you didn't really have a career as a deputy unless you carried your card showing you contributed to the sheriff's election fund.
Dave.
