Still looking since thats half the fun!
I am looking an echo chainsaw cs-305 w/ 14 inch bar general cutting. Home depot sells the same one for $199 but i will be getting mine at a dealer in support of small business. Any experience with this model or other late model chainsaws of this brand?

Goodleboy,

I don't have an Echo chain saw but do have an Echo trimmer with a couple of attachements (Edge clipper, Tiller/Cultivator and the lawn trimmer). I have used it for the past 4 years and have been very satisfied with it. Starting this trimmer is easy and painless compared to the other model I had before!

I'm also looking at replacing 2 old chain saws with a new one and I will definately look at the Echo offering when the time comes!

goodoleboy,
Echo is an awesome brand. They always start. If it weren't for theives /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif, I'd probably never have had to replace mine!

I bought an echo ezstart weed eater for my son and daughters to use. They love it!! It starts SO easily! Is there something in the chainsaw line that is super easy to start and lightweight?

I think Echo and Stihl both make great chain saws and string trimmers. I personally have Stihl simply because the first one I ever bought has still never broken, so I've stayed with them. I have a neighbor who has the same experience with Echo. Neither of us particularly feel our equipment is better than the other, but both are pleased with our products.

The only difference is on his cut off saws, the Echo has the air filter pickup right where the dust is blown off of the cutting wheel and he has had trouble with those, so he uses Partner and Stihl. But, we are off of the subject of chain saws, now aren't we. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks for the replies, I own a few pieces of echo equipment but never a chainsaw. A friend said Stihl is better etc.. but I think what they are telling me is really a ford vs. Chevy issue becuase he seems kinda proud of those saws.He could not give me a reason why stihl was better only that they were better.

Rockyridge,
I didnt see anything that differs from other echo equipment as for the easy starting part. I know what your speaking of maybe its only availible on select equipment?

I'm a Stihl man too but know several fellas that have the Echo's and they really like them. I think they make good stuff.

My small saw is a Stihl 028. The features I like are:
The chain adjustment is on the side.
No tools needed to open the fuel filler or bar oil plug.
Starts easy.
Light wieght.

I would not want this size saw for making firewood (I have a Stihl 066 for that,) but it can and my nieghbor uses an 024 to make wood (sad to see but he is happy.)

One More Thing about the ECHO.

I needed to replace a plug in my ECHO trimmer. Since I was in town at the time, I thought I'd look it up on the website.
<font color="red">FOUND</font> it with a few mouse clicks on the Echo website. Right in the parts area of the site.

Just for fun, I tried the same thing on Stihl's, Husqvarna's, and Jonsered's.
Well, Stihl, Husqvarna, and Jonsered wants you to visit your local dealer. They don't publish their parts info on the web!
However, I was able to find the plugs on the NGK, Champion, Bosch, and AutoLite sparkplug sites.
At least ECHO wants the owner of their equipment to be able to help themselves!
