Why should I have all the fun driving the tractor around? I can share my toys just as well as the next guy.
Walked along with the wife while she learns how to drive and use the FEL.

I do suggest if you're going to train her on using the tractor, advise her of the safety aspect too, since she wasn't wearing the seatbelt.

I can't remember the last time I wore my seatbelt. Probably because I never have. Really who wears the seatbelt especially when you're getting on and off the tractor all the time doing yard work. :confused2::confused2:

Actually, if the ROPS is up (and it is 95% or more of the time), I have the seat belt on...what I have to watch is I have a tendency to hook the belt even if the ROPS is folded.
Now, there are few areas of my property that aren't sloped.

I think the ROPS scares me more than not wearing the seat belt. Wasn't paying attention, drove under some sturdy tree limbs, and forgot I had the ROPS back there. Felt for a moment like the tractor might of wanted to do a back flip . Fortunately was at a crawl and got it clutched it quick.

i guess im in the minorty here,as ive had my tractor a yr an i have yet to wear the seat belt.an the ROPs never have really bothered me.an im very careful in what im doing with the tractor.

Put the ROPS down then. Either keep it up and wear a belt, or take it down and don't.
To do otherwise it so invite the ROPS to crush you in the event of a rollover.

every1 has differant ways of doing things.im not going to willingly put me or the tractor into position to roll over or lay on its side.nor am i a hobby farmer.i know the risk everytime i fire the tractor up.its all about knowing your own limits an what you can an cant do.

Even knowing and working within your limits doesn't mean an accident can't happen.
Everyone thinks they're within their limits...you read about the results every day.

yes roy you sure hear about them.an i know what causes most of them.1 being in a hurry an not thinking about what your doing.2 not watching what your doing when on the tractor.you see ive worked with ppl like that,an ive had to jump out of the way when they messed up.an because of that i never rush when im working.an i work alone most all time so disstractions dont happen.

What if a pack of dogs were chasing a deer in your direction and the deer collided with your tractor, or even making you quickly divert the direction of your tractor by the deer's sudden crossing right in your path? Another possibility? What if the operator suffered a stroke or even a mild heart attack? Going into diabetic shock is another possibility if the driver is diabetic. If his body temperature or sugar level suddenly drops or elevates, temporary loss of motor control is a reality.If the operator suddenly suffers the loss or use of one or more of his limbs, he would be limited in his control of the tractor. The machine would most likely continue on its way, and if it struck a rock, tree, or other obstacle at an unexpected angle, the tractor might turn over. The results may be costly. I don't think that anyone is purposely trying to change your mind in their suggestions. You are your own Man. Most certainly they are only trying to help, and I know that I am only trying to help.

guess I better sell my property since it's too dangerous here. Maybe get an apartment across the street from the local hospital and just wait for something bad to happen. Or just live life and enjoy myself with a few acceptable risks. Used to have an old 8n with no ROPS or seatbelts or hardly any safety features and drove it fot 15 years and still lived to talk about it.

i understand where yall are coming from.an ive thought of every possable thing i could think of.thats why i never drive the tractor in cruise control.because if something should happen my right foot would go off the treadle footfeed.

I grew up driving tractors that have neither seat belts or ROPS. I guess back then you had to use common sense while operating machinery. Heck we also had to watch the PTO shafts because there were no covers for them either. And yes accidents do happen. If using a ROPS, and this is just my thinking, if there is a roll over type accident, that ROPS bar can get you just as easy while wearing a seat belt. You only have a lap belt on and your body bends. Common sense and learning from those more experienced than you is what keeps you safe.

Please let us know when your wife gets tired being a human grapple, and then she may be more receptive to you getting one for your rig.

To me the seat belt is a lot like a life jacket. You need it when you least expect to.

ROPS up and seat belt on guy here. I pay attention to the little sticker on the dash that says "Safety - Live With It."

And, I don't do these things for me, but for my loved ones. I don't want them shoveling dirt on my face because of a tractor accident.
