Does anyone else ride bicycles?

It looks like that bike has standard SRAM twist grip shifters. All the shifters operate basically the same. You just have to tighten the cable to take the slack out. There are high and low limit screws that keep the chain from going off the high or low side of the sprocket set. Once you've done it, it all makes sense. Just go on YouTube and there are all kinds of videos. It's fine to take a bike into a shop and let the professionals work on it but unless the wheels are out of round there isn't anything beyond the average person.

If so, it's coming together in my head. 7 speeds over 3 ranges, making the 21 speeds total.

Runner you need to get one of the front wheel trainers. You could double
your workout.

Good idea! I'll probably go for the upgraded electric version so I can go even faster (like those seated "exercisers" they advertise on TV).

21 speeds in theory, but in actual practice, you probably can't really use combinations where you are "cross-chained" like smallest rear cog with the largest front ring. It wears out the chain and makes a bunch of noise.

How is the carbon fork on rough surfaces? In the Trek Dual Sport line, they got rid of the suspension fork the year after I bought mine (2022) and went with a carbon fork on all models. I'm not convinced it would work as well as the suspension fork in trail situations.

Even the "paved" trails I ride on have broken areas and lots of sharp bumps where the asphalt has buckled that make me appreciate the suspension fork.

I think if I had to replace the Dual Sport, I would go for a regular hardtail mountain bike with suspension fork, like the Marlin, then put narrower handlebars on it like the Dual Sport.

Worth a try. This is tire damage to a brand new Continental tire that's never been on the ground.

I have these weird orangey tires on my inside bikes for the trainer. I just have two rear wheels for that bike.
